I found myself reading this thread hoping to see what sort of delays are happening these days. Thought I'd post my experience so far...
Ordered 7/6/09
i7-920, 6GB RAM, 1GB ATI 4870, 750GB HD, Vista Ult, Blu-ray Reader/DVD+-RW, SB Xi-Fi Titanium
Estimated Ship date was 7/14. First estimated delivery date was 7/17.
~7/13, estimated delivery date was updated to 7/24.
This morning, 7/20, estimated delivery date was updated to 7/31.
Received an email from Dell today regarding the FTC mail order act, saying that if I didn't contact them by 9pm tonight, they would cancel the order automatically.
Chatted with Dell Sales (from the Chat link when you build a system), who said they don't have access to any sort of stock information. Referred me to customer care (1-800-624-9897), who said that they had no stock information either, just that "I see no further delay. You should receive your order before 7/31 since you've already experienced delays. We ship on a first come first serve basis." While on hold, the prerecorded message claimed that they were experiencing supply delays.
In the end, I sent the verification email to prevent the automatic cancellation of my order, but not because I believe Customer Care. Really, it's just because if I price out the same system I ordered, it's about $350 more now than when I ordered. So, I guess I'll bide my time.
Someone said that they had been told what part was holding up their order, but I couldn't get that information out of anyone. Any ideas on who to talk to for that?
Given the hassle many on this thread have had, I won't pitch a fit or moan about it... but I just wanted to update that there are still delays and Dell is still not operating like your average mail-order company.
