External Hard Drive for 64-bit OS

Just purchased new Dell with 64 bit OS and want to buy an external hard drive of about 500GB. Understand many of the external hard drives will plug-play but that the encluded software will not work in the 64 bit environment.

Does anyone have a suggestion on the issue or am I confused and/or worried for nothing?

User forum tells of proper 64Bit software in SeaGate drive

Microsoft's version of 64bit compatible drives. But I don't know if it includes accepting the software as 64bit compatible.
