I have an issue with firewire.

I am a Inspiron 1501 (vista) user who just brought home a JVC DV Camera. I like the camera, and I love the computer. The Insperon 1501 does not have a firewall port, and the camera requres one. I would like to use Vista Movie Maker to edit my amiture video,(my first child birth in June)nothing too fancy. Realizing that we are trying to save a penny where we can, my question is in two parts. Should I   A. Buy a firewire card for my Inspiron 1501, and a 4 to 6 wire. And how hard is it to install, can I do it myself?  B.  Buy the firewire to USB adapter. Or should I return the camera and go with somthing different? Keep in mind, I want the best quality at the best price. I paid $200 for the camera. Help Help Help!!

I would suggest getting a USB/Firewire hub for your laptop.  For example:

Or if you are set on returning your camera, check into the Flip video and Flip HD video camera's.  You can simply pop them right into USB, very convenient.

I think I'll go with the hub. The price is excellent, and I like that the iogear because it has multiple ports. Thanks for the help brother.

Re: I have an issue with firewire.

Am I to understand that there is no Firewire adapter for the 1501? I had an old Inspiron 2650 that I was able to get an adapter for. It was made by Compaq, and I got it through Dell. Surely there has to be one for this newer model?

Re: I have an issue with firewire.

It is true that the 1501 doesn't have a Firewire port.

I am pretty sure that that hub will NOT work. It is for Firewire to Firewire and USB to USB. It is not going to allow to connect a Firewire device to his laptop via USB. Read the reviews at http://www.amazon.com/IOGear-4-Port-FireWire-Universal-GUH420/product-reviews/B0007RB28U/ref=dp_db_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

To do what he wants, he needs to buy a Express Card with Firewire port.

Dimension B110 - XP Home

Dimension 4100 - Windows 2000 / Ubuntu 9.10 dual boot
