Drivers for poweredge blade 1855

I am going planning on upgrading our 1855 2003 server to 2008 server.  I noticed there are drivers available,

has anyone had any experiences doing this?

Thanks

Craig

Re: Drivers for poweredge blade 1855

I am actually attempting this now on one of my 1855's. Since you can not do an in-place upgrade, I am going from scratch using the latest Dell Systems MGMT DVD that I downloaded. It has all the latest drivers for this server and other poweredge servers. I also made sure all firmware was up to date as well.I have run into a snag though. It runs through the initial Dell setup and then reboots to start the OS setup. Then it just stops at the lovely multi-color green Vista / 2008 screen and never asks for media or does anything else.

I am currently rebuild my RAID from scratch to eliminate all possibilties of the old OS interfering. I will post later today to let you know what has happened and whether I have to bring Tech Support into the picture.

By the way, the I may be a "newbie" to the forum like it claims, but I am not to Dell Hardware and Software setups. (Been doiing IT for 20 years now with the last 10 working on Network Servers to include Dell).

Re: Drivers for poweredge blade 1855

Craig,

I have done an install now. I had 2 servers I tested with. Using the Dell Systems mangement DVD seemed to add an inordinate amount of time to the install. I tried the second server with the Windows 2008 DVD straight up and it installed without a problem. Recognized all the hardware. I did update the drives from the Dell website after words to be on the safe side.

So the quickest way is ton install str8 from the Windows 2008 media then update your drivers. Also make sure to update all firmware first.

Re: Drivers for poweredge blade 1855

I also have the 1855 running Server 2008.

I have an issue with the NIC driver, it installs a microsoft driver as bellow which works but i cannot team the adaptors.

Intel(R) PRO/1000 MB Dual Port Server Connection
Microsoft
21/06/2006
8.3.2.8

I have downloaded the latest driver from Intel version bellow which installs but cannot see the adaptor

intel
23/09/2008
8.3.15.0

Has anyone else seen this issues and resolved it?

Thanks in advance

Dan

Re: Drivers for poweredge blade 1855

The Intel software doesn't show if you RDP into the server normally.

From your desktop, do a Start -> Run -> "mstsc /console" and press enter. Now RDP in and see if in the device manager under the NIC properties you see the NIC teaming option.

Alternatively, go in via the DRAC or a kvm (crashcart) attached to the blade (on the front).

Re: Drivers for poweredge blade 1855

I am already conncting to the console.

When using the microsoft driver i dont see any intel options which makes sense as its a microsoft dirver

on the intel driver mensioned above i do see the teaming option but there is an issue because the whole driver doesnt work.

It installs but comes up with an error in devcie manager saying it couldnt find the hardware error cause 10

can you confirm the correct intel driver version which should work?
