Two days latter i Received the message again. I now have the Tech coming back with the following items: Motherboard, Memory Chips and new Video Card.

Now, I have maade in excess of THIRTY, yes 30, phone calls, in an effort to get my computer working. Tonight, the printer does doe not recognize a print command, the cursor has a mind pf its own and flies all over the screen, and I am ready to have the heart attack that my beating heart is threatening. Last weekend, I spent my time with Dell. One call on Saturday lasted SEVEN AND A HALF HOURS. On Sunday, the follow-up call was THREE AND A HALF HOURS. Still, my issues are unresolved. I have had a difficult time getting my email to work correctly. Dell has restored my computer to factory settings remotely, and then they have done it again by using the discs which came with the laptop. I have had to buy new virus proptection ($80) because I can't locate my old disc, re-new Dell-on-Call early with less perks than my former plan ($110), buy PC Tune-up for 2 computers ($80) which was never loaded on one and used only a week on the other. When the PCTune-up was removed when Dell restored factory settings, they refused to refund my money because the 21 days had passed and I had no right to a refund for a product which did not work and was not used. I did not know there was a 21 day rule.

When I call tech support, if I can understand the tech, he always sounds as if he is reading a script, he is unable to think outside the box, he usually refuses to allow me to speak to a supervisor, and he obviously could care less about fixing the computer. There was alot of noise in the background one day and when I asked what it was, the tech told me they were praying! When I call, I have to wait on hold forever, and when I get the tech, I still have to wait. I have contacted "unresolved issues" several times as well. I think the execs at Dell think the cost of a computer is minimal and that they have cornered the market. I am afraid they may find out that things can change if you don't have good service.

I am planning to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. There is no reason we should not be able to speak with people here in the US. I don't feel that I am communicating well with people from India who have little knowledge of our idioms and customs. When I tell them that my fondest desire is to run over the computer and mail it back to Dell, I'm not at all sure they have the least idea what I mean. I need my computer for work. For two months, I have been without it most of the time. Dell has not been accomodating at all. They just want to sell me something else--How about a TV? a camera? You just look over these nice Christmas gifts while I work on your computer. They''ll be selling used cars next! I am furious. This is our 5th Dell and we have bought 4 for our children and 1 for an in-law. Someone else will get our money now. Who do you folks recommend?

And how can I get my V505 to print? The blue light is on. I have tried using the cord instead of wireless to no avail. Thanks all.

win7 on mini 9?

I ordered a Mini 9 in February and so far it is still in production. Apparently the broadband modem is backordered. Having read other posts on here about delays, I have a bad feeling about this, like I am never going to receive this computer (if an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is). All the other Dells I've ever ordered have shipped within a week.

However, if I should ever receive it, I want to put Windows 7 on it. I have been running Win7 beta on my new Inspiron 13 since day 1, and it rocks. I hear it runs fine on 512K RAM, and I would like to try that out.

I am curious whether anyone has done this and how you did it. I have a Win7 DVD and I also have access to an OS image, or I could download the Enterprise installation from work, but I would have to join to the domain and hardwire to the corpnet and I'm not sure how possible this will be. Naturally the mini does not have an optical drive. I have an external DVD drive, but I don't think I can boot to it. I have a 4 gig flash drive. I think that might be the way to go.

Anyway I am curious how other people have done this if they have. I want to immediately wipe the whole thing (with all the Dell bloatware and XP) and install Win7 clean. But I suppose I could also upgrade and uninstall the Dell stuff by hand.

Thanks,

However, I want to install Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 instead. The problem is that VMware formated my disks in the VMFS format and also did something to my recover partitions. The Dell recovery disk is unable to restore the drives to their NTFS factory status. As a result, I am unable to install Hyper-V server 2008 R2 or even Windows Server 2008 Standard for that matter. Any suggestions?

Problems with Dell

Last e-mail to Dell:

While I appreciate your efforts. I still have NOT been able to obtain a complete copy of what I ordered from Dell last August. WHAT DID I ORDER?

I have tried your "automated" site (www.dell.com/invoices) repeatedly and have been unable to get a response. I am attaching images of two of the responses. These are NOT the only two time times that I tried -- just two of the times that I captured the results. The blank invoice screen is what normally occurs. I have waited long, long times for something else to show up, but that is all that is coming.

The invoice that you did provided was helpful. It does show that I made an error when I ordered the new Dell computer. I thought that I was ordering Corel's Paint Shop Pro. I do have Jasc's Paint Shop Pro and thought that perhaps Corel had made some improvements after they bought out Jasc.

Instead, I ordered Corel's Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 as your invoice copy shows. My error and my mistake, so I guess that I am stuck with it.

I had attempted to passively cancel my order of the USB Micro Drive by not responding on the last e-mail that you sent indicating that the order would be cancelled if I DID NOT respond by mid-night that day. I DID NOT respond, but of course the item later arrived anyway. I wish that I had now done the same for all the e-mails (printer and USB Micro Drive) that you sent threatening cancellation -- even those that I opened after those mid-night deadlines.

OK, I am stuck with all those thing that I feel really bad about ordering. The printer isn't good. I tried to OCR with it and gave up and just typed the document that I was trying to copy. I have never used the USB thing and don't know how and have no instructions on how to use it or what to use it for. And, of course, now I get to Corel's Paint Shop Pro Photo X2.

I have tried to install it, but the install program keeps asking for a serial number. You provided a telephone number for Corel (952) 930-9171, I guess, but the that number is "not in service." I guess that program is useless.

I must say that I am totally disappointed with Dell's service, or lack thereof. This is the third computer that I have ordered from Dell and it will be the last. The service has been rotten. I don't speak Indian and have a hard job understanding what those that I contact on phone are trying to tell me. The computer came "speaking" only French, another lanuage that I don't understand. And there were other problems that I have now forgotten the details about.

After a months time I had ordered mine (9/26) and it was supposed to ship on (10/22), after two delays it finally shipped out and will be received today (10/28). If you have any issues or have found any solutions to help get your systems sooner please help others that have also been in this predicament. It would seem the main issue is due to the high demand of I5 and I7 processors and parts being backordered. If you call customer service after a delay often times they will upgrade you to one day shipping, even though it took them three days to actually get it out.

How to transfer ownership on a dell u2410 monitor?

Hi

Each time one breaks
(Every time was a different reason) Dell tries to "Troubleshoot" to determine what
is wrong with the computer, the only problem with this method is that the
Representatives are reading off a piece of paper and have no idea what they are
talking about. Then once they determine what is wrong, they send out "qualified"
technicians to replace your parts aka some sub-contracted company. This never works
and you lose several screws in the process, then you continue to have nice phone
conversations with Dell in which you have to explain your situation to 20 different
representatives and they in turn tell you "I can not help you in this matter but
such and such department can." So they transfer you and then that person tells you
the same thing and they send you right back to the department from which you came
(this process repeats several times). So after about 2-3 weeks of being jerked
around they finally decide that you should get a system exchange. Finally, you think
that you will actually get your computer problem fixed and not have to worry about
it again. Well, unfortunately your wrong because your buying from DELL, becuase in 6
months when your computer breaks again (despite of your best efforts to keep it cool
and not have it overheat) you have to go through the same thing over and over again.
O JOY!

In the past 2years I have,
Had 4 Dell Laptops Learned How to troubleshoot my computer better than
there "trained" technical support Wasted 2-3 weeks talking to dell. Each week I
would say I talked to dell 20hrs on the phone (conservative estimate) SO lets do
some math 2.5 weeks (rounded) x 20 hrs x 4 times= 200 hrs on the phone with Dell
I love wasted my time cause apparently I have nothing better to than talk to Dell.

Bottom Line: If you want to have a working computer for longer then 6 months and you
want to have good customer/technical support

DO NOT BUY FROM DELL

(No this does not violate your Terms of Service)
Its just the truth.

DLink Dir-635 -no phone dialling tone

Hi, I am trying to set up a home network using Dlink Dir -635 router .
My computer, XPS 730x has broken down three times completly in 10 months. I have spent the last 3 weeks trying to get a replacement. Their tech service has always told me that I would get "the same or a better system". Yeah right!!!!!. I was told this Friday that I had no choice but to accept the Studio XPS 9000 system or I would get nothing in exchange.

I had a 4870X2 graphic card, a very cool case with Alienware lights and fan control, an extremely upgradable motherboard, 1,000 power supply, a Titanium sound card etc...My computer was 5.9 out of 5.9 on the Windows Experience Index.

The XPS 9000 is not a gaming rig, its a Studio multi use entertainment system. There are no real upgradable options, for crying out loud the power supply is only 470 watts and the graphic card is GTX 260. The only real Dell Corporation computer that can compete with my rig is the Alienware Aurora withthe GTX 295.

Why am I being punished because Dell has decided to phase out its 'high end" XPS gaming system to concentrate on Alienware. I am being completly ripped off and all of this because I trusted their most expensive computer line 10 months ago.

My computer cost me 2,280$ (after rebates) and the XPS system that I will be receiving cost around 1,600$ (on the15th of Nov). This makes no sense!!!!!!

Solutions....?

Repair my XPS730x system (which they refuse) or Reimburse me so I can buy the Alienware Aurora (which they refuse)

If any one has any ideas I truly thank you as this has gone for so long and I need a real solution.

Thank you.

From what I understand, the computer will come with Win XP Pro pre-loaded and upgrade discs for Win 7 Pro.

I have the following questions:

Is the upgrade process as simple as just inserting the Win 7 upgrade discs and taking it from there?

What about driver compatibility? Will the upgrade disc have all the needed drivers?

Will it wipe the data and other applications on my HD once I proceed with the Win 7 upgrade? As in, will I have to backup my data and re-install applications like MS Office 2007?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Here's the short story, in case you don't have an hour to read the dramadetails:

As of yesterday, I am getting a replacement Studio 1747 for one they shipped me almost DOA. Some questions I have that I should have asked before I hung up and I'm hoping I can get answered here instead of waiting on hold for so long:

1) How does the exchange process work? They're going to ship me a new laptop and I'll ship back the dead one in the same box?

2) How will I know when to expect it? Will it show up on an Order Status page? Will I get an email letting me know it's being built?

3) Will I get a *new* laptop, or will it be a refurb? (Actually I asked him this and he said it was absolutely going to be new, but what are your experiences?)

4) I customized the 1747 that I bought a bit by upgrading to faster RAM and bigger hard drive (as examples). How can I ensure that the system they ship to me will also have these upgrades? (I asked him about this too, and he dismissed it saying that "they will just make sure". What are your experiences?)

Okay, so here's the long version. It reads a bit like a nerdy soap opera though. You have been warned. :)

I placed an order for a Studio 1747 with an i7 CPU on 10/26 through the website order system. After completing the order process, I received an acknowledgment email that essentially just said I purchased a laptop and that I would get a confirmation email within 24 hours letting me know that the order is then being actually processed. The ETD on the order page said 11/14, so I start getting a little excited.

Two days go by and I still haven't received the confirmation email. We have just reached notch 1 on the frustration level.

Anyway, I give the Sales group a call to figure out what the deal is. The sales guy didn't have a clue, but he would make sure that order got cancelled and I should place a new order through him. He said that he would make sure it got all the way through (and skipping the whole acknowledgment/confirmation process), so I agreed to reconfigure a new machine through him.

During the reconfiguration, it came to light (after some confusion and time) that the reason the original one was delayed was because, apparently, the Bluetooth adapter didn't work with Windows 7 Home Premium. I needed to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro.

Now, here's a little intermission.

I'm in IT. I have been doing this for a very long time, and for a very long time I have been ordering PCs and even ordering plenty through Dell.

I know that the information the sales rep is giving me is ridiculous, and that the reason why it's not available yet with Windows 7 Home Premium is because Dell hasn't officially certified it yet. Whatever though, I was going to get the upgrade anyway, and the sales guy said he would give me a big discount on it. Great.

So, we finish up the order and he sends me the order confirmation email detailing the new laptop components. Guess what's not in there? If you guessed "bluetooth adapter", give yourself a gold star! (Okay, so it wasn't that hard to guess. Don't go too crazy there, pablo). Notch 2.

I'm frustrated, but I figure I can just add a BT adapter after anyway, so it wasn't too big of a deal. Oh, and those 2 days have now added 2 weeks to the ETD.

Time goes by, and I receive the laptop on 11/12 (whew! Just missed a Friday the 13th delivery!). It's early! I'm going out of my mind crazy excited!

I immediately start working on the new computer, setting it up just for me, installing programs, and moving my files over from a temporary laptop I had. This laptop is CRAZY FAST and has a beautiful screen, and I can't wait until I get out of work so I can start using it for more fun stuff.

The next day, 11/13, at 9:47PM, I get home from work, open the lid to being it back from sleep mode......and nothing. Lights come on, but nothing else. I let it sit for a bit thinking it'll come back after a couple minutes (maybe?). Nope.

Okay, so I've had this happen before with other PCs. I'll just power it off and on again. I hold down the power button to turn it off, wait a few seconds for everything to spin down, and push the power button with trepidation.

beep....beep...beep....beep....beep....beep...beep..........................beep....beep...beep....beep....beep....beep...beep...............

Aw crud. A beep code. Anyone know what 7 beeps means off the top of their head? Yeah, it means a processor failure :( Notch 3.

I'm pretty disappointed at this point for every single one of the obvious reasons. I just spent over $2000 for an electronic effigy for all that is right in the world only to have it die a painful, heptagonical-beeping death (good thing it was quick!).

I call up Dell, and after being on hold off and on while he checked with his collegues a few times and read through a couple pages of his scripts, eventually confirmed that yep, 7 beeps means a processor failure. He claims to dispatch out a replacement CPU and motherboard and we end the call with him giving me the dispatch # and a note telling me I should hear from a tech within a couple days to schedule an appointment.

Saturday... Sunday.... Monday... Tuesday... Still nothing. Notch 4.

So I call Dell back to find out what's going on. We go through the typical machinations of being on hold, being transferred, getting disconnected, calling back, being on hold, and then I finally reach someone who can help me. We go through the ticket. After more on hold-ness, he comes back and says "I'm really sorry sir, but it looks like that dispatch was never actually...dispatched. If you don't mind, let us recreate that for you and send it out to the tech right away."

NOTCH 5!!

Alright. Calm down there, nomachinez. Nothing good will come of it if you get upset.

I speak as clear and as calm as I can through the next few steps of recreating the dispatch. I now have a new reference number and have spoken to a manager.

Yesterday I was thinking that it's great that I have a reference number, but how will I know it's been dispatched? They keep screwing up, so it's reasonable to double check and make sure it's done right this time.

So I call them. I go through the same, standard (apparently) machinations of being on hold, being transferred, getting disconnected, calling back, being on hold, being on hold again, getting disconnected (yes, twice. Notch 6), being on hold, being transferred, being on hold, being transferred, and being on hold.

I get someone on the phone in the hardware group, who, after being on hold for a couple more times has figured out that somehow, for some reason, the motherboard and CPU are not getting added to the dispatch properly so the dispatch isn't completing. He doesn't know why. He has no idea when it will be fixed, or who to even go to to see about fixing it. He offers to recreate the dispatch again. NOTCH 7.

I ask to speak to a manager again, and he offers to replace the unit completely. At this point, I have 2 options. 1) Don't replace the laptop, but it's unknown when the parts will be in or 2) replace the laptop and wait 3 or more weeks for it to arrive.

So, after all this running around, literally hours of my time, I am (supposedly) getting a new laptop.

Well, there you have it :) That's most of the story, I think, and this is the reason for my questions.

At this point my confidence in Dell is pretty low though, but it would be really nice if they delivered. Please?

None of the documents I can find online identify the line-out jack
as anything other than 'line-out'. This could be a plain
stereo-mini-jack or it could be some kind of fancy versa-jack, I need
to know.

I would be very surprised if there was no way to output
digital audio from this box (apart from HDMI), but it's the kind of
thing I need to verify before I buy.

/rant on

Btw, I
contacted Dell chat support person and asked this question. After some
back and forth I was told that he "thought it was digital" but that
there was no way for him to know absolutely and there was nothing he
could tell me about how to find out.

"I don't know" is
acceptable. "I have no way to find out" is plain fail. I went from

I bought my wife a new monitor and moved this monitor to my kids PC (not a MAC). The monitor does the same thing on the kids PC. One strange thing that I noticed last night is that when it goes into the "sleep mode", if you look real close at the monitor you can till see the icons and windows on the monitor, but they are really, really faint.

About 2 years after we got it, we had some issues with it. Naturally, the warranty was expired. Every morning when I turned the computer on, the monitor would only remain at normal settings for approximately 2-5 seconds before it would change itself to the darkest possible contrast settings. We tried turning it off/on and resetting the factory settings, but these only restored it for a matter of seconds before it would change itself back. Usually after about 100 minutes of turning it off and on, it would give up and retain the factory settings. After a while we just got sick of fighting and the monitor was placed on the shelf above the desk. We used our aunt's old CRT monitor.

After purchasing a desktop from a friend who was upgrading, I decided to use the old monitor with it. The drivers have all been installed, everything seems to be working fine except the monitor. The old trick of turning it off an on until it gives up had been working, but this morning it just wouldn't give in. I have tried everything I know of, including running the monitor on it's own, disconnected from the computer, in which case, the monitor displayed it's color test, but it was quickly darkened to the darkest contrast setting. If the power supply, the drivers, the connection or the auto-adjust sensors were bad then it would either work or not work, right? If it is a sensor, is there a way i can fix it? Has annyone else had this problem before? Were you able to fix it? Does anyone have an idea of what may cause it to work better?

It has always been kept indoors, out of direct sunlight, at 60-80*F. After being stored on top of the desk shelf, it is possible that dust may have affected it, but the problem existed before that point. It is out of warranty, and I am looking into purchasing another one, but as I am a college student with a very limited amount of funds, I would really prefer to fix it. I don't really want to take it to a repair shop, as i'm afraid they'll charge me $40 just to run a diagnostic and tell me they can't fix it.

Thank you very much for your time, and hopefully, your solutions.

CD / DVD drive is not being recognized

When I click on "my computer" there is no icon for that drive.
But, when I went to register the system on the dell website, it said my system didn't meet the eligibility requirements. When I called support I was handed off mutiple times each person saying they would fix the issue. While on hold I was disconnected after waiting for almost 45 minutes.

I have a service request number, they even have my phone number but no one has called me back. I'm frustrated and don't really want to stay on hold again, unless the problem gets fixed.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

it is taking to get order from DELL so here is my story as well. I do
not want to repeat previous stories except to say I have been waiting 5
weeks now for a "Promise Pink" laptop for my wife and am now on my
first of what I fear is many delays on a 42" Panasonic TV we ordered
from DELL as well.

I have battled with the customer service
issues (and you are all correct that they don't care), spoken with two
people who were supposed to be managers, and even been verbally
"promised" twice now by these managers that my order would not be
delayed again. As an IT Manager for a medium sized business it is my
call as to which IT hardware we use and for the past 12 years it has
been DELL products only with a high degree of success with their
products and a very low failure rate. During all of this time we have
spent many, many thousands of dollars with DELL and I have done the
same on a personal level with laptops, a Mini 9, monitors, etc. So
simply this. 5 + weeks on a laptop, almost 2 weeks on a TV that doesn't
even have to be manufactured by DELL is poor at best.

Beginning
with January 2010 when we put in our new hardware refresh for the
Windows 7 upgrades (we are still on XP only) I will be recommending we
review other products from HP, Gateway, etc. For years I have
recommended DELL to both family and friends and I would love to see the
amount of money I have pushed into the pipeline through my
recommendations alone and now here we sit. It's 2009 DELL and there is
no logical reason for it to take this long to build a laptop and to
ship a TV. I'm tired of hearing the "supply chain" excuses. If you
don't have the product or the parts to build it, then don't sell it.
Pretty simple if you ask me. Don't run sales on items you can't even
come close to shipping in a reasonable time frame. The most
unbelievable part of it all is that my inbox each day keeps getting
sales messages from DELL about the great deals they have on all types
of various items and the thing they push the hardest is laptops.

I'm
disappointed on a professional and personal level with the complete
disregard for taking care of your loyal customers and this isn't just
about me. It's for all of the many, many others that have posted on
here with their many thousands of hard earned dollars wasted and tied
up with DELL.

There's neither firmware upgrade nor any other support. I cant disable APM! Tried hdparm.

Does anyone know any reasonable explanation ? There are many complaints about these HDDs. My desktop is completely silent. Working with Dell E6500 for me is horrible.

Windows 7 upgrade from Vista - Install updated driver

When trying to upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista, on my XPS, I get the following:

The following issues are preventing Windows from upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, complete each task, and then restart the upgrade to continue.

For these items, make the following changes:
Install updated drivers for the following devices. Open Control Panel and search for "update device drivers".

Storage controllers: AMD AHCI Compatible RAID Controller

I have gone through the process of ugrading this and it tells me that " Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date". When restarting the upgrade it tells me exactly the same as previously and that the device driver needs updating.

Is there a way out of this loop?

My HP Officejet 7310 scanner quit talking to my laptop ( I've tried everything I know, Even called in some good techs and they couldn't figure it out either). My solution was to by a new laptop with a 64 bit system (Vista - to be upgraded to 7) and the scanner works great. My question is can my old laptop be upgraded to a 64 bit OS. My processer is an Intel (R) Core (TM)2 CPU T7200. Centrino Duo. Any advise?

Studio XPS 16 with Two External Monitors

I have gotten quite a bit of conflicting information on this issue, so maybe someone here has actually tried it. The last Dell sales support guy I talked to told me no, only the VGA and HDMI ports would work, and they would display the same thing. I even asked him about the DisplayPort and he said it would not work.

So, my question is, with the Studio XPS 16, can you have two simultaneously running external displays, extending the windows desktop (showing different content)? If so, which combination of ports will work - VGA, HDMI, DisplayPort?

Thanks for any clarification you can provide...

problem with restoring pc software to its original condition

hy,
