USB Ports on Monitor don't work

  • Why don't the USB Ports on my Dell Monitor work?
  • Have you installed the usb extension cable that came with the monitor from the computer to the monitor?  The usb ports do not function from the video cable or power cable, you must install the extension cable.
  • Well, the monitor is second hand, so where would I find an extension cable?  Also, did you see my other post regarding an Inspiron 8600?  I want to use a regular monitor and cordless keyboard/mouse with my laptop.  However, I can't figure out how to run just the monitor, and not the screen on the lap top.  I can either run both, or just the laptop.  Also, I can't figure out how to make the keyless peripherals work.  The touchpad on the lap top keeps interferring with the set up.
  • There are typically two types of usb extension cables that could be used, but I don't know what type your monitor requires, so I can't say specifically what you need.  Some use a standard printer-style cable like this: http://www.directron.com/cblusb203blk.html and some use a male to female extension cable, like this:  http://www.directron.com/10footusbexc.html

Not sure what to tell you about the remainder of your question, sorry.
