(Redirected) not tech too savvy needs HELP

My computer has started turning itself off if closed. No sleep mode, no restarts... to get it to come back on I am holding the button down till I see the light come on in the front of my laptop. I let go, the light goes off within seconds. I continue to push ( not as long) and the light will come on, only to turn off, again. I have to continue this until it finally boots up. Frustrated and worried it just won't come on at all soon. I have tried to search the internet and have found issues related to just turning off, or not coming on, but not both. Please help me figure out what is going on. Remember, I unfortunately am not very tech savvy

    We will need to know the model before we can help. An example would be, Inspiron 15, 3000 laptop, It might be an Inspiron 3668 desktop.
