Seem to have run into a hurdle on trying to perform a reset back to original factory settings on my dell Inspiron 1764...Any help is appreciated....Have tried a variety of the function keys upon power-up, but with no success...tried the F8, mbut given no factory reset option...F2 & F12 do not seem to be what I need either...Any help ??? Thanks in advance
First make copies of files and folders that you cannot afford to lose. This should be a normal practice.
The easiest method is...
Restoring Your Computer´s Software to the Factory Settings
If you have Windows 7 and created the Windows 7 - IMPORTANT Windows 7 Backup Disks to create you can try Restoring Your Dell Computer to Original Factory Installation with Dell DataSafe Local Backup 2.0
The manual method and more time consuming is How To Restore or Reinstall Microsoft® Windows® on a Dell™ Computer Please remember to install the drivers in the correct order. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order
Any questions, feel free to ask.
What is a Dell Service Tag and how do I locate it?

Rick has provided same advice I'd recommend.
Can you provide a bit more info?
1. Does your system boot fully to Windows 7? If not, how far along does it get?
2. Have you disconnected any and every cable/usb device from this system?
3. Do you suspect 3rd party hardware or software is involved? Installed anything right before your issue began?
4. If you can get to the main desktop screen, and can get internet access - try running diags: http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kcs/document?c=us&cs=19&docid=266616&doclang=en&l=en&s=dhs
If you've resolved your issue, great. To get a more focused answer, you'll need to provide a bit more info.
