Security Infrasturcture: Focusing on the Threats, Not the Noise

IT Efficiency Metrics

IT Efficiency Metrics
The clear answer to today’s IT challenges is to increase IT efficiency throughout the infrastructure, from the desktop to the data center. This Wiki is intended to provide a forum where efficiency metrics, goals and guidelines can be shared.

Security Metrics

Security Infrasturcture: Focusing on the Threats, Not the Noise

Security Metrics

GOAL OR METRIC: Have Tools to Filter False Positives and Noise

RATIONALE:  The volume and sophistication of threats is increasing  exponentially, meaning there are much greater risk in every part of an IT infrastructure:  Noise and false positives divert valuable resources from key tasks.  Efficient organizations use sophisticated filtering tools, services and technologies to reduce waste.

POTENTIAL RESULTS:  No disruptive security breaches means avoiding uncontrollable costs to fix the problem and nobody gets fired.

  • Automated tools are not true AI and can be fooled into thinking that an attack is noise.

Training and Retention costs are often overlooked entirely in the IT Security area.

It is human nature to do full backups for a few weeks after a  major crash and then stop.

  • The Risk of keeping hardware and software well beyond its useful life is something that is often overlooked in the name of cost savings.  The penalty phase of this comes AFTER the security has been breached.
