GOAL or METRIC: $896 per attached user or less
RATIONALE: The data network is the backbone of the data center, and is a critical component of how it performs. But it is easy to over-engineer and even easier to under-deliver efficiency. One metric of efficiency is the cost per attached user. The lower the cost, the greater the efficiency. There are two ways to influence this measure: By lowering the cost of the supporting infrastructure, or by increasing the number of users accessing it. Either way, greater it efficiency is required, either through impovements in throughput/Speed, simplification of management, higher performance (either through new technologies or by redesigning for greater performance) or some combination of the above.
