Mainstream support will end on October 9, 2012, for 2007 versions of Microsoft® Office, SharePoint®, and related products, rather than in April 2012, as originally planned. The extension will reduce the cost of supporting the products for some customers. During the Mainstream support phase of a product version, customers get service packs and other types of bug fixes free of charge. After mainstream support ends, most support other than critical security updates requires a paid support contract. The date extension affects the Office 2007 suite and its components as well as SharePoint 2007, Project 2007, and Visio® 2007 products. As with all products, mainstream support for these products does not commit Microsoft to fixing any particular bug in them or maintaining their compatibility with newer products.
