Today is World Autism Awareness Day: Supporting every child’s desire and ability to learn

As a teacher, I would spend countless hours trying to find technologies that would empower my students to be as independent as possible and have great quality of life. Today as a member of Dell's Education Team, we have a new Assistive Technology Service that is going to have a huge impact for students with disabilities in K12 and Higher Education. You can see a few more details in this video . Through this service we will provide access, implementation and support to schools, districts and universities to ensure that individuals get the technology needed to open their world to being able to communicate, read the document that they couldn’t before, and engage in the world around them. As I reflect today on Autism Awareness Day and wear blue to promote awareness, I feel proud of Dell’s solutions that open the world to students across the globe through Assistive Technology

How does technology-based instruction actually impact students? Do they learn faster, delve deeper, and enhance critical thinking abilities? To answer these questions and more, Dell is participating in a number of pilot programs, one of which recently wrapped up at Union County Public Schools in Monroe, N.C. Susie Austin, the Lead Instructional Technology Specialist and a doctoral student who is focusing on the program as the subject of her thesis, recently shared with us some of her observations...

Businesses, hospitals, financial institutions, manufacturers and a range of other commercial enterprises have long understood the benefits of co-sourcing service agreements as a means to maximize their IT investment and enhance overall performance. Yet the idea of a public/private IT services partnership is relatively new in the K-12 environment. Technology firms have historically been called upon only to install hardware and software systems or fix infrastructure issues, not help districts...

Had the world’s most revered artists had access to technology, we may have been able to experience an animated “Guernica,” an illuminated “Starry Night,” or an interactive “Mona Lisa”. Today’s artists have more than just paintbrushes and pigments at their fingertips – they have a wealth of technological tools to create masterpieces that Picasso and his contemporaries could have only dreamed of. In celebration of the convergence of art and technology...

When it comes to making decisions about classroom technology, the debate is no longer confined to desktops versus laptops. Throw tablets, smartphones and netbooks into the mix, and educators have a plethora to choose from. Our goal is to equip students with the 21st Century skills they need to thrive in a global digital workforce. Part of our mission is to challenge and prepare teachers around the world to implement innovative learning approaches, and that means helping them decide which technology...
