Today is World Autism Awareness Day: Supporting every child’s desire and ability to learn
2 Apr 2012
Looking back when I started my career as a teacher working with individuals with disabilities, I never imagined I would someday be working at Dell. As a teacher, I would spend countless hours trying to find technologies that would empower my students to be as independent as possible and have great quality of life. Today as a member of Dell's Education Team, we have a new Assistive Technology Service that is going to have a huge impact for students with disabilities in K12 and Higher Education. You can see a few more details in this video . Through this service we will provide access, implementation and support to schools, districts and universities to ensure that individuals get the technology needed to open their world to being able to communicate, read the document that they couldn’t before, and engage in the world around them. As I reflect today on Autism Awareness Day and wear blue to promote awareness, I feel proud of Dell’s solutions that open the world to students across the globe through Assistive Technology

For many students, the greatest impediment to learning is the price of these required books. Here are 10 websites that have collected hundreds of textbooks and are providing them for free , giving every child an equal opportunity to lean! Bookboon provides free online textbooks for students in...

Student and Staff Voice

I am always amazed in two ways by student and staff voice within schools. I am amazed that more schools don’t do more of it and also amazed at the difference that effective student and staff voice can have. I always try to keep in mind that “two heads are better than one” and “you have to take people with you during periods of change” I am by no means an expert on student voice nor do I have a school responsibility for it. As Leader of E-learning my role is to facilitate...

I had the opportunity recently to represent Dell on a panel of distinguished educators at the Innovation in Education event in London organized by The Guardian , a daily UK newspaper with a strong focus on education and the public sector. The purpose of the event was to discuss the state of education reform in England and the challenge of ensuring students learn not only the basics, such as math, science, language arts, social studies and the arts, but 21 st century skills, such as problem solving...

We live in a connected world where technology empowers people to connect with one another, opens up access to knowledge, information and tools and inspires people to actively participate in their community. At Dell we know that technology alone is not enough to transform education. Instead, it's what we do with technology that matters. Technology empowerment through connectivity can and should transform the entire learning environment by strengthening the bonds of human relationships, supporting...

Educational Technology certainly is reshaping the way teachers approach education in the 21 st century: computers, social media, and the Internet have opened new doors to students, allowing them to pursue education on their own terms and interact in new and meaningful ways with content across all subject areas. Worried that the technology required for these new methods is ‘difficult’ or ‘expensive’? There are many free and easy-to-use technological resources available for...
