Greetings from Las Vegas, Nevada! Today marks the start of CES 2014, the international launch pad for the coming year’s most innovative technologies and consumer tech trends. The show will feature a host of new products and services dedicated to pushing the boundaries of the consumer experience.  This year, Dell’s product showcase provides a perfect snapshot of emerging trends within the consumer landscape, from PC gaming to high resolution 4k monitors.  We’re excited to kick off the New Year with a consumer portfolio that will keep our customers on the cutting edge of day-to-day computing:

Transforming the 4K Frontier

Recently, several TV companies have launched high-end products featuring a dazzling resolution of 4,096 x 2,160 pixels. The consumer response to the jaw-dropping visuals has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic, so it’s not surprising that the trend is crossing over to computer screens and Ultra HD “4K” resolution monitors.  With the recent launch of the world’s first 15.6-inch Quad HD+ display, Dell is at the forefront of incorporating the best displays available into its portfolio.  Shortly following the XPS 15 launch, we announced the new Dell UltraSharp 32 and 24 Ultra HD Monitors, and this week we will debut a 28-inch Ultra HD Monitor, priced less than $1,000. An incredible screen for an incredible price – 4K for less than $1K!

Revolutionizing PC Gaming

Gaming has evolved from a niche hobby to a challenger of traditional entertainment mediums like television and cinema, with big title sales figures rivaling those of blockbuster movie releases. Alienware has always been at the forefront of PC gaming, and yesterday announced a partnership with Valve, the developers of the world’s largest online gaming platform and creators of the Half-Life franchise, to revolutionize how gamers play their games with the Alienware Steam Machine. Running Valve’s new SteamOS and shipping with their Steam Controller, the Alienware Steam Machine  brings PC gaming to any room in the house. The Alienware Steam Machine was designed to provide the best balance between size and power, all wrapped in a design that is distinctively Alienware, yet unobtrusive in a living room. The close partnership with Valve and the hardware expertise of Alienware have resulted in a system that reaches the full potential of a Steam Machine.

Making Content Secure and Accessible Everywhere via Cloud Storage

With more of our data moving to the cloud, security and accessibility to this information has never been more important.  Dell offers two cloud-based solutions that bridge these needs for our consumers. Dell announced a partnership with Dropbox last month at Dell World, and starting today, US customers will receive 20GB of free Dropbox space for a year with the purchase of a new Dell Venue tablet or Dell XPS, Inspiron or Alienware PCs.  Dropbox will also integrate with PocketCloud, another easy-to-use personal cloud solution for customers that enables file access anytime, anywhere and on any device.

Enhancing 2-in-1 Flexibility

When tablets first hit the market, the devices were adopted mainly as supplemental gear for consumers to consume content on the go.  As the workplace shifts to bring-your-own-device (BYOD) ecosystems, mobile professionals are demanding to work and play on the same device without compromising on performance. With products like the Dell Venue 11 Pro tablet and the acrobatic Dell XPS 11 2-in-1 Ultrabook, flexibility and superb user experiences are easily achieved. Showcased at CES, the Venue 11 Pro combines the portability of a tablet, the power of an Ultrabook and the experience of a desktop.  Similarly nimble, the XPS 11 fuses the versatility of a tablet and the powerful productivity of a laptop in the thinnest, lightest, most compact 11-inch 2-in-1 form factor in the world.  Switching from work to play was never easier or more pleasant.

Be sure to keep an eye out for Dell at CES and throughout 2014 as we looking forward to an exciting year of innovation.
