We just wrapped up Dell’s most exciting and successful Siggraph yet. I had the honor of unveiling the world’s thinnest and lightest mobile workstation, the Dell Precision M3800, and our biggest and sharpest monitor ever, the Dell UltraSharp 32, at the show and people were blown away by the design and performance of both. Customers, especially creative pros, have been asking Dell for these products so we were thrilled to deliver them – and be the first to do so.
We repeatedly heard from customers, partners and press that these were the coolest products they saw at the show and they couldn’t wait to get their hands on them. Here is some of the positive feedback I continually heard: “These are very, very attractive offerings”, “Beautiful”, “When can I get my hands on both”, “I want one”, “I wasn’t expecting this - I’m very impressed”, “This is lighter, thinner and more powerful than my Mac Book Pro – I want one”, “The resolution of the display on the M3800 is tremendous”, “Dell has its mojo back”, etc.
At the show we released a few of the key features on both products and will announce full details, including pricing, when they start shipping later this year. Initial details as well as early impressions from press and analysts follow below.
The Dell Precision M3800 is the first thin and light workstation-class system offering break-through mobility, design, performance and dependability for cutting-edge creative and design professionals. At less than 3/4 of an inch (18mm) and weighing only 4.5 pounds, it enables video editors, architects, engineers and others to bring their workstation with them to a job site and create and edit while not sacrificing performance.
Featuring an incredibly vivid Quad HD+ display with a 3200x1800 pixel density IGZO panel and multi-touch capability standard on all systems, the M3800 offers a bright, crisp and sharp contrast ratio (1000:1) enabling the level of fine detail necessary for everything from graphic design to 3D models.
It’s also the only thin and light mobile workstation with an Intel fourth generation Core i7 Quad Core CPU and NVIDIA Quadro K1100M professional graphics. To ensure optimal user experience, the M3800 is designed, tested and certified to run industry leading media & entertainment, engineering and design software applications.
