Dell SonicWALL SuperMassive stack

“Born for carriers, bred for your enterprise.” This is the slogan that you will see in print ads for the newly launched SuperMassive 9000 Series Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) from the Dell SonicWALL, Dell Software Group. Less than two years ago, we launched the SuperMassive 10000 series firewalls, which was quickly adapted by security carrier and large data center deployments around the world, including marquee names like Telefonica and US Cellular. This week at the RSA conference in San Francisco, we’ve extended the SuperMassive family with the 9000 series, comprised of the SuperMassive 9600, 9400 and the 9200 models.

The SuperMassive 9000 Series firewalls are aimed at enterprises and data centers that want to secure their environments against the growing number of threats looking for new ways to burrow into networks. To gain this level of protection companies need to deploy this protection at speeds between 5-9 Gbps. The Deep Packet Inspection engine, pure Dell intellectual property, uses the intelligence from an in-house threat research team to scan all traffic, even SSL encrypted traffic, for attacks against browsers, Java, Flash, server software, databases, operating systems and other potential surfaces that are targeted for attacks.

What can these Next Gen firewalls do? Intrusion Prevention, Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, SSL Decryption, Application Visualization, Application Control, Application traffic bandwidth management, Botnet detection, GeoIP identification, Anti-Spam, User identification, Regular Expression pattern matching for DLP and more. This level of deep and comprehensive inspection is very compute intensive. Our engineering team fit up to 32 cores into a 1U device to provide the processing power necessary to crunch through the evasion techniques utilized by modern attacks and to identify and neutralize those threats, while maintaining an extremely low power profile. The SuperMassive 9000 Series share a common chassis, featuring 4x10GbE SFP+, 8x1GbE SFP, 8x1GbE 10/100/1000 interfaces with a dedicated 1GbE management port that takes management traffic directly to the CPU, avoiding contention with the data traffic. Expandable in the future with an additional 2x10GbE SFP+ interfaces, this is a versatile, high port density NGFW platform that has the capacity to evolve through firmware updates to keep ahead of the threats.

We have a lot to brag about, but prefer to have others talk about our performance and capabilities instead. Last year, the SuperMassive family of firewalls received the coveted “NSS Recommended” rating in the 2012 NGFW test, followed up by the “NSS Recommended” rating in the 2012 IPS test, won accolades as the fastest NGFW in SSL decryption by Network World. We’re starting the 3rd party validation cycle again, kicking it off with the second consecutive “NSS Recommended” award in the 2013 NGFW test and there’s more to come in the rest of the year!
