I was checking Techmeme a little while ago, and saw Walt Mossberg’s review of Windows 7. Though you have to read past the lead paragraph to get to the positive stuff, he writes a pretty glowing review of Windows 7.
I have to agree with Walt’s assessment: it’s the best version of Windows I have ever used as well (and I’ve used every one of them since Windows 3.0—I was a DOS guy before that). I’ve been putting Windows 7 through its paces as my full-time OS on my home systems for several months since the beta… It’s run really well on two main systems I use just about every day: my XPS 720 and a Mini 10.
We’ll have much more to say about Windows 7 here on Direct2Dell leading up to the launch on October 22 and beyond.

XPS M1530 chiming in, Windows 7 runs just fine
Windows 7 still doesn't seem to have an option to record what you hear on the PC. You end up having to take the output on your soundcard and feed it back into an input and record that (and this cannot be a digital connection last I checked). And when you do this, you have to disconnect the speakers, so you can no longer hear it.
This makes recording VOIP calls and such pretty hard to do.
XP didn't have this severe limitation.
I wasn't impressed with the W7 Beta but hope MS has finally put together a good OS this time. Vista never really "wow"ed me and in fact drove me away from Windows. Maybe I'll try W7 after release, on a friend's system of course.
XPS 410 upgraded with a 4870 1 gig card and core 2 quad q6700. Windows 7 flies on this machine. Also on an inspiron 1520 notebook with nvidia 8600 gpu.
