This week, Citrix announced new releases of Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop, extending the capabilities of their unified platform for application and desktop virtualization. Some of the key features that customers would benefit from include:

  • An updated version of Citrix provisioning services which reduces IOPS by 99% as compared to the previous version. This reduces cost by allowing customers to optimize their storage;
  • Enhancements to XenApp – application pre-launch, session linger, anonymous logon and connection leasing for high availability – which combine to deliver instant application access, a bonus for use cases such as health care where time gained through faster access to apps enables more time to be spent providing patient care;
  • High quality graphics acceleration and DirectX/2D rendering help provide sharp, detailed images for engineers and designers.

Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop are the only application and desktop virtualization solutions which meet FIPS and Common Criteria security evaluation requirements - more good news for customers in the public sector.

Dell and Citrix have enjoyed a long-standing and productive relationship which has resulted in innovative data center infrastructure and thin/zero clients that perfectly complement Citrix, providing customers with a set of comprehensive end-to-end solutions which optimize mobility for all sizes of businesses through desktop and application virtualization. Dell reference architectures are closely coupled with Citrix releases, ensuring that customers can take full advantage of the latest and greatest capabilities.  We were the first to introduce a fully virtualized end-to-end workstation with certifications for industry-leading applications, and are continuing to provide new innovations in data center architecture and end points which reduce cost, increase performance and help simplify desktop and application virtualization.

Dell’s focus on delivering the best solutions to meet customer needs, in combination with Citrix’ forward-thinking architecture and applications, continues to pioneer new areas for app and desktop virtualization while expanding the use of these technologies in the market. This latest release is yet another positive step towards the vision of enabling anywhere, anytime access to data and apps, securely.
