South by Southwest (SXSW) Conference & Festival is one of the world’s largest and most unique convergence of music, film, and emerging technologies which was held in Austin, Texas from March 8-17, 2013. Since SXSW is held right in our backyard, we used it as an opportunity to introduce and emphasize some of the next-generation technologies and solutions we are focused on, such as our Social Media Command Center and the XPS 18 All-in-One.

Dell’s Social Media Command Center monitors its online mentions 24/7 in 14 languages worldwide through its @DellCares feed on Twitter, and uses the command center to get feedback on quality issues, identify support needs as they happen, and connect with people who influence others. The XPS 18 All-in-One device, running Windows 8 and with the Austin City Limits application from Rockify, was a big hit with the crowd at SXSW who were enthusiastic over its design and performance. In addition, Dell showed various music creation solutions and video editing tools for the XPS 18 device further demonstrating its capabilities to a musically aware audience.

Rich Brown from CNET wrote that the XPS 18 is the most tablet-like, portable, and best looking of its class while running full-blown Windows 8, working well as a presentation device. Dan Grabham from Techradar wrote that the XPS 18 is light and comfortable to sit on your lap, has excellent screen graphics, and is thin (less than 18mm) but has all the ports you’d require.

The XPS 18’s unique design, functionality and five-hour battery life enables a variety of uses for work or play including:

  • Flip out the feet to watch a movie on the couch Use the productivity stand for reading recipes in the kitchen to prepare tonight’s dinner
  • Hold flat for an intense two-player video game battle or to read a favorite blog
  • Carry around the house to find the best quiet place for a child to learn and complete homework

Beyond its portability, the XPS 18 comes pre-installed with the Dell Wyse PocketCloud app portfolio, making it a truly ‘go-anywhere’ device. Here's a short overview video of the XPS 18:
