Each quarter during quiet period, we like to take the opportunity to update you on one of our Corporate Responsibility initiatives. This quarter, we have invited Becky Zertuche to provide an update on Dell Reconnect, our partnership with Goodwill Industries. Becky is responsible for the daily work of keeping Dell Reconnect alive and growing.

Dell Reconnect is seven years strong and growing. In October 2004, Dell partnered with Goodwill Industries of Central Texas (Austin) and the City of Austin to pilot the Austin Computer Recycling Project for 1 year. The pilot tested whether the model of having individuals directed to Goodwill with their computer e-waste could be a portable, scalable and repeatable model that would work first in Austin, then nationally. The model worked and has now become one of the most successful programs of the consumer recycling programs catalog.

Dell Reconnect continues to grow and currently partners with 65% of Goodwill members in the U.S. and Canada. Since the inception of Dell Reconnect, 190 million pounds of computer e-waste has been responsibly recycled and over 250 green jobs were created. Dell Reconnect is a partnership that continues to support Dell’s quest of being the greenest technology company, as well as supports Goodwill’s mission of creating opportunities to put people to work.
