XPS 8960, Bluray drive upgrade?
Hey guys,
I just ordered a Dell XPS 8960 with a dvd drive because there was no bluray drive option when ordering like there was for the XPS 8940. I was wondering, can you upgrade the XPS 8960 to a bluray drive? If so, how easy is it, does anyone have a part number and what about the software?
I saw on these forums people were told that this would work in an XPS 8940 but im not sure if it would in a XPS 8960:

There's no opening in the case for a 5.25" optical drive, and while it may be possible to retrofit a faceplate from an earlier model, it'll be far easier to simply use an external USB drive.

Costs a little more, but is faster since it doesn't run everything (meaning including power) off of USB. Up to you if you like full-size or slim.

@ejn63 you cant upgrade the internal dvd drive on the 8960? Why not?

There is no opening in the faceplate for a 5.25" drive -- unless you are willing to cut an opening or can find a faceplate from an older system that had support for an optical drive, there isn't a way to fit one.

No ODD slot in front bezel, page 8. Sold with the external DW316 USB slim DVD+/-RW.
