If you take a look around the forum and you will see that many users have had problem with Dell SA more than enjoying the supports it provides.

You can uninstall Dell SA app and free up system resources to improve performances.  System updates can be supported and run by Windows Update from Windows Settings.

If system files are corrupted and preventing Windows updates, a clean Windows 10 installation may resolve both of your issues.

Hi DJDR:

What is your Dell computer model, Windows 10 version [please include the edition (Home, Pro, etc.), version and OS build number shown at Settings | System | About | Windows Specifications] and BIOS version?  To find your current BIOS version open a Run dialog box (Windows key + R), enter msinfo32 to open your System Information, and look for the field named "BIOS Version / Date" in the summary.

When you say that your Windows Update isn't working, does it display an error message, and is it a specific update that fails to install (e.g., KB5034441) or all updates?  If Windows Update is failing to install all available updates have you tried running the built-in Windows Update troubleshooter at Settings | Update & Security | Troubleshoot | Additional Troubleshooters link | Get Up and Running | Windows Update?  From my Win 10 Pro v22H2 machine:

__________________________________________________________

If Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features shows that SupportAssist v4.0.x is already installed on your machine then check there and confirm that the Microsoft Windows Desktop Runtime v6.0 *** (currently v6.0.28 as of 12-Feb-2024) is also installed.  This is a new system requirement for SupportAssist v4.0.x and should have been installed on your system by the SupportAssist v4.0.x installer.  The latest release notes and user guide for SupportAssist are posted at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/dell-supportassist-pcs-tablets/docs and the minimum system requirements for SupportAssist v4.0.x are posted <here> in the release notes.

I agree with Chino de Oro about the buggy behaviour of the latest SupportAssist v4.0.x.  Many users are now reporting that Dell has pulled the SupportAssist v4.0.x installer from their download servers because of know bugs and have replaced it with the old v3.14.2 installer - see the 21-Feb-2024 Dell support article Wrong Version of SupportAssist for Home PCs is Installed. If the Microsoft Windows Desktop Runtime v6.0 is installed on your system and SupportAssist v4.0.x still doesn't run correctly then I would just wait for Dell to release a newer version that includes some bug fixes or stop using SupportAssist altogether - I removed SupportAssist v3.x from my Inspiron 5584 about a year ago and currently use the Dell Update for Windows Universal v5.2.0 app recommended on the support page for my Inspiron 5584 to check for available Dell software and driver updates.

*** Note that the previous SupportAssist v3.14.x required the Microsoft .NET Runtime v6.0 that is used to run console apps. SupportAssist v4.0.x now requires the larger Microsoft Windows Desktop Runtime v6.0, which is a different edition of the .NET Runtime v6.0 (see the download page at https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet/6.0/runtime) that includes additional files required to run desktop apps.
