BIOS/iDrac/LLC update of R610 - best and working solution in 2024

Hi,

I am trying to update the idrac to the latest version. I assume the this is possible to be done from some old distributions like RHEL7. This is is the error when I am performing check from Proxmox 7.4

./ESM_Firmware_KPCCC_LN32_2.92_A00.BIN -c
/opt/dell/updatepackage/ESM_Firmware_KPCCC_LN32_2.92_A00.BIN-1617185.NiTNSf/spsetup.sh: 2544: ./getSystemId: not found
        not a dynamic executable
This Update Package is not compatible with your system.
/opt/dell/updatepackage/ESM_Firmware_KPCCC_LN32_2.92_A00.BIN-1617185.NiTNSf/spsetup.sh: 658: ./sputility.bin: not found

Any solution for this error or any other possible method for update?

Can I use Support Live image 2.2 (SLI22_A00.iso) to perform the update?

I don't remember if the idrac could be updated from the web interface but this is not an option for me - the interface is unusable

Obviously I will provide a solution of my own problem.

I even tried RHEL 6.2 - iDrac and LLC packages always return errors similar to above - this is not a working solution.

The working solutions can be found here:

https://forum.allenscloud.com/c/dell-servers/5

Tested with r610 and r810 servers - these bootable images update everything successfully without a need of any interaction.

Just download the appropriate DSU image for you.

Hello, yes this update is compatible with:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.5 (x86, x86_64)
iDRAC6 v2.92.00 3
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.5 (x86, x86_64) SP7
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.8 (x86, x86_64)
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.0 (x86_64) SP1
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.2 (x86, x86_64)
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.3 (x86, x86_64)
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.5 (x86, x86_64)
• Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.7 (x86, x86_64)

Yes you can try with Support Live Image.

But also, i suggest you to reset the idrac first. Then try to update with the web interface that should be available after the reset.

Thanks

@DELL-Marco B Thanks for the information.

I tried to reset the idrac, in my case, I used i-button:

Something happened for sure - now I can't access the iDrac web interface - after login, the interface is just reloading the login page.

Luckily the ipmi over lan is working.

Digging further, I found this post describing an upgrade path: https://www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/rack-servers/bios-and-idrac-upgrade-paths-for-r610/647f8cf5f4ccf8a8ded5dc2b

The older versions of BIOS, iDrac and LLC  bin files returns similar errors:

./R610_BIOS_C6MRW_LN_6.4.0.BIN: 38: [: Linux: unexpected operator
./R610_BIOS_C6MRW_LN_6.4.0.BIN: 48: typeset: not found
./R610_BIOS_C6MRW_LN_6.4.0.BIN: 49: typeset: not found
./R610_BIOS_C6MRW_LN_6.4.0.BIN: 50: typeset: not found
./R610_BIOS_C6MRW_LN_6.4.0.BIN: 51: typeset: not found
./R610_BIOS_C6MRW_LN_6.4.0.BIN: 52: typeset: not found

BTW: I tried the Support Live Image but the usb even didn't boot - written with rufus with MBR in DD mode.

The main question - what is working solution to update these servers today, in case, installing an outdated OS is not an option?
