Swapping the optical drive for a hard drive?

Greetings, can I swap out the included optical drive with a hard drive?  If I unplug the ODD0 and using the same connectors to connect a sata drive, the drive isn't seen.  Any thoughts? Thanks. Tim

Update: As always, it was simple: check the connections!  (one was loose). Thanks again all.

In addition to the directions given by @yasir ali did you initialize the drive in Disk Management as shown in this web page at Wikihow? Until you initialize the drive it will not be visible or accessible.

Thanks Yasir, my problem is with step 11. It's not being recognized. I did go into the UEFI settings and ODD0 is checked as "enabled."

@JOcean Yeah, thanks. The OS isn't seeing it because BIOS doesn't see it.
