Dell Precision Rack 7910 - booting error : PST0208 System BIOS has hated

Hello,

My "Dell Precision 7910 Rack" server gets stuck on startup, with the error message "PST0208 System BIOS has hated".
The DVI and HDMI ports no longer work, but the VGA ports work.
Is it the NVIDIA Quadro K2200 graphics card that is faulty ?
Thank you for your help.

Regards

A few ideas:

Dell R930 - PST0208 - System BIOS has halted

PSTO208 system bios has halted. check console for detail

How to Recover BIOS

Dell precision 3420 Bios Recovery and follow Chino's instructions.  Possibly pasted from Dell's instructions.  This doesn't mean I'm 100% sure if the server has BIOS recovery.  It can vary by unit depending on model year.

Reset NVRAM via jumper.  Unplug server.  Place jumper from PSWD pins to CLR-NVRAM pins.  I'm not 100% sure if you need to reconnect unit to power for 10 sec., but it's in Dell's BIOS Recovery instructions.  Disconnect power and place jumper back on PSWD pins.

I can't speak for the rack server, but the 7910 tower was released back in 2014.  You might want to replace or test the size 2032 battery while you're at it.

@Pierrefitte

You're welcome.

The Precision 7910 is not on the list for BIOS Recovery 1.

And then for BIOS Recovery 2 & 3:

Hi,

Thank you very much for your help.

Shipping date : 07 december 2015

Service Tag : <Private info removed>

My server does not detect keyboard and mouse. Only the VGA port works, not the DVI.
Pressing the CTRL + ESC keys does nothing, because there are no lights on the keyboard.
The screen displays the following error message: "Loading BIOS Drivers".
Thank you for your help.

I was wondering if you were still having trouble with it.

What have you tried for troubleshooting steps so far?

Hi,

Sorry for the delay ; my problem still persists.
As shown in "How to Recover BIOS", I pressed CTRL + ESC at startup.
And since the USB ports on my server no longer work, there are no lights on the keyboard.
Furthermore, the screen plugged into the VGA port, the only port that works on the server displays the error message "Loadind BIOS Drivers" and remains frozen at this stage.

Thank you for your help.

Did you try replacing the battery as mentioned?

Did you try resetting NVRAM via jumper reset as mentioned?

@bradthetechnut

HI,

No, I did not these manipulations.
I don't have any batteries to do a replacement, but I can reset the NVRAM with the jumper reset.
I'll keep you informed.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Energizer 2032 battery Amazon

If that battery is low, it must be replaced or the 7910 will continue to be problematic.  It's often the first step for troubleshooting.

Good to know you're resetting the NVRAM.
