DellEMC Powerflex 4.5

While running install_PFMP.sh, it continually fails at 73%, with the error "FAILED - RETRYING: Validate first server node status", and halts after 30 attempts. We're strictly following the install guide for 4.5, and we also have a support case open for this issue, but we haven't had much direction towards resolving this.

1- Has anyone else experienced this ? If so were they able to resolve this ?
2- Is 4.5 ready for deployment, or are we seeing issues due to it ?

Any leads towards resolving this is much appreciated, for I get the idea that support too is not very sure about what is going wrong here.

PFMP install's can fail at various locations and for various reasons.

Most appear to be network type issues & others are possibly hardware related.

See KB - Troubleshoot PFMP Install Issues

https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/000220096

Verify the PFMP_Config.json syntax is all good, that all hostnames & IP address info is correct in format & accurate, along with the "ClusterReservedIPPoolCIDR", the "ServiceReservedIPPoolCIDR" & the "RoutableIPPoolCIDR" are good for the mgmt, oob & data1 pools, & finally the "PFMPHostname" & "PFMPHostIP" are all good.

Usually if the install fails at or around 73% during Phase 1

  1. When the PFMP install fails at 73 of Phase 1, this means it may have failed to possible install Rancher to one of the nodes
  2. The most common reasons for this here is time is not in sync and there is no default network route
  3. Verify the failure reason in the <PFMP Directory>/atlantic/logs/bedrock.log
    1. In the bedrock.log you might see ssh connection (or cluster unreachable) is timing out to "ip address on port 22" giving you a "connection time out"
  4. Check if "journalctl -u rke2-server -f" shows anything from the rancher service logs on the node where it failed to start

Hope this helps you find & resolve your issue.
