T140 with software raid - Need hardware raid!!

I have a T140 with Software Raid.  Due to customer needs for security compliance I have to redo the server with ESXi and add some VM's to it for auditing and such.  Vmware doesn't support software raid.  I looked up the manual for this server and it lists an Perc H730P and an H330 but intensive googling is making it hard for me to determine if I just order those cards if it will work or not.  A couple forum posts mention the server does not have a backplane.  I'm not entirely sure if it's needed but the 4 drives come off into 1 plug that plugs into the onboard Raid.  Can I not just plug in an H730p and plug the cable into that instead?  I reached out to Dell Sales support and they said it's not possible.  Then why is hardware raid cards listed on the product spec sheet and why are there images of the T140 online with Raid cards in them?  Can anyone enlighten me?  If the backplane is needed is it not purchasable?

This site lists a server with a backplane but googling trying to find this backplane yielded nothing...
