R740 with PERC S140 will not recognize SATA drives

I have two new R740 with S140 controllers. Both servers have the same symptoms when trying to create a RAID. The F2 utility will not recognize the four (4) 1TB Dell SATA drives so that we can create a RAID and install a Windows 2019 OS. After configuration of iDRAC, we can see that the hardrives are present. Is this a firmware issue that can be resolved? the Create virtual disk is greyed out on the iDRAC when looking at the physical drives. How do I get the PERC S140 to recognize the SATA drives?

@DELL-Young E Thank you. I am receiving an error that states "Unable to verify the Update Package Signature". I have updated the BIOS to 2.20.1, iDRAC 6.10.80.0, the PERC S140 BOIS is 5.10. Again, I have Dell SATA drives that are not able to be seen by the BIOS to create a RAID. Any help appreciated!

Hello,

Have you tried boot to the LifeCycle Controller <F10> and use the OS Deploy wizard?

It will allow you to configure you RAID and load the appropriate driver for the OS you select to install.

You may need to update Dell OS Driver Pack first:

https://dell.to/49m8Q2l

Check that your BIOS Boot Mode is set to UEFI and not BIOS mode.

And that you have you set SATA controller to RAID mode

To enable software RAID on Dell’s 13th generation of PowerEdge systems or later

This shows 13th gen, S130 but the steps should be the same

@Dell -Charles R For changing the controller management settings I receive an error message.

Enable BIOS Stop on Error: No RAID controller detected. Unable to change "BIOS Stop on Error" setting. Any suggestion. I have followed the other instructions. Any suggestions appreciated!

I would like to confirm you updated the OS driver pack and tried the OS Deploy wizard? I highly recommend the wizard because it loads the drivers. WS2019 does not have native S140 driver.

OS driver pack:

https://dell.to/47VwGk5

You can update the Driver Pack using Lifecycle Controller.

1. Copy the file to a USB device

2. Plug in the USB device and enter in to Platform Update by choosing <F10> on boot. Use the update page to supply the driver pack.

3. Select the USB device and navigate through the directory contents to find the executable

4. Launch the executable and follow the instructions provided.

Can you get a picture of what you get when you set it to RAID mode shown here

https://dell.to/49kxMau

Also F2 - Boot settings - Are you set to UEFI?

I haven't see this "Enable BIOS Stop on Error: No RAID controller detected." could you get a picture of that where you are seeing it?

Since this is new purchase you might contact Support directly and an engineer can do a remote session to get a look with you.

@Dell -Charles R Confirmed that we have updated the OS driver package as recommended above. Confirmed we are set to UEFI.

Unfortunately, no pictures will be able to be taken due to the location of the equipment.

Currently working with Support on a phone call. I will update this query after troubleshooting.
