upgrade dell optiplex 790 mini tower
Hello. I have a Dell Optiplex 790 Mini Tower. It has an Intel i3 processor and 4GB of RAM, with a 256GB HDD. I've already upgraded it to 16GB of RAM and a 500GB SSD. Is it possible to further upgrade to an i5 processor and add an NVIDIA graphics card? If so, could you please help by providing the models?
Thank you."

You can review this users benchmark site for compatible builds submitted by other users. For your question, yes, the CPU can be upgraded to an i5-2500 or i7-2600. You can also add NVIDIA graphics card. Use the compatible builds performance for idea of graphics card choice. After selecting a preferred card, you will need to do research for the card's fitments, power requirements and upgrade the power supply accordingly.

either i5-2500 or i7-2600 are worthy cpu upgrades but be mindful this is a quite old sandy bridge model. withut a motherboard that can OC a i5 or i7 k cpu the performance is quite limited in 2024. you might as well save the fund to upgrade to Intel 4th gen i7-4770 in an optiplex 7020 which can still use the same ddr3 and ssd. even the 4770 is old.

Precision 3620's are competitively priced on ebay with certain model Optiplex's, like 7020. It can take 6th gen, 7th gen, and Xeon CPU's. Comes with either 290w or 365w PSU. Builds can also be checked out on userbenchmark.
It's competitively priced because it's not much newer than a 7020, but is newer than a 790 and is better. If it comes with the top CPU for it, an i7-7700k*, it will cost a little more. *Precision 3620 BIOS does not have overclock.
A couple of ideas if you still want a GPU for your 790 that goes with the PSU:
