Optiplex 760 GPU upgrade

I got a Optiplex 760 DT for free, I happen to have a spare R5 430 half-height 2GB on hand, will it happen to work with its original PSU? I need to know ASAP. Thank you!

R5 430 is a 50W card.  it should be ok.  best proof is test yourself. you can let the community know your test result.

it did not say max w for PCIex16 slot.  at least i could not find it.  but it is a general reference only.  DT psu is 255w.  it is good enough for a 50w card.

chino de oro and bradthetechnut are the two other optiplex enthusiast volunteers.  you can find them contribute frequently on the optiplex board.

@TheSusGuyO_O

Not sure why you're looking for someone else to answer your questions when you got accurate answers from redxps.

Since the R5 430 is an old card, I did some comparing to see if you'd actually have an improvement in resolution.  If the 760 has a Q9650 quad core, the R5 430 would downgrade max resolution a little bit.  If it has an E8400 dual core (for example), then the R5 430 is a definite improvement.

If a monitor is 1920x1080 (or 1080p), then none of that will make a difference anyway.

CPU, GPU, and monitor resolutions can both be Googled.  It would get long-winded to cover everything, but that should give you some ideas.

If you plan to use the R5 430 to play games or run certain apps, Google the games'/apps' system requirements to see if the R5 430 meets them.

@bradthetechnut My 760 has a Core 2 Duo processor, I have 2 monitors on that setup, a Dell P170S and a Dell E170S 17 inch 4:3 screens. My R5 430 is 2GB BTW.  So it will meet the max number of watts with the 760 DT's PCIe x16 slot, right? Thank you!

@bradthetechnut BTW, both of my monitors' resolutions are 1280 x 1024. I will only use that graphics card to play some GBA emulation games and some Roblox games and that is basically all I am using it for since they don't really work with onboard graphics.

@bradthetechnut My 760 also has 8GB of DDR2 RAM BTW in case it is using a lot of power in the PSU.

The R5 430 is only 50w.  The 255w PSU in a 760 DT should have no problem with it.

@bradthetechnut It didn't fit unfortunately, the pins was a little far away from the PCIe x16 slot ridge. It was half height just like the DT supports.

@bradthetechnut@redxps630 I was actually able to fit it with a bit of effort with some force but kinda bent the bracket, but it works!
