5040 PSU upgrade (PLEASE HELP FAST)

Hi, I need help fixing my Dell optiplex problems

I have bought a Dell Optiplex 5040 MT, it has 16gb ram, i7-6700, and 1tb hdd.

I bought a rx6600 at a good deal, and I also bought a lien liu 750w power supply. I used the often accepted solution of using a 24 to 8 pin adapter, however my motherboard is like killing itself and its showing a double flashing amber light whenever I use the new power supply, the old one works fine, I am just trying to get this working cuz this is the only way my parents will let me get a PC.

PLEASE HELP FAST

P-S

I did try multiple adapters, the first was the wrong one and the second was the right one, both don't work, they both show the double amber light

@Help with optiplex Please

Would a 360 w power supply work to support the 5040, or would this not work???

The RX 6600 is a 132 w card.  400w-450w PSU will do the trick.  It's possible the 360w one might be enough, but might be a stretch.

I have never heard of a lien liu PSU.  Get a good name brand PSU for your Dell, EVGA, Corsair, Cooler Master, etc.

Hi @redxps630 - Do you mind commenting on this further?  I'm not quite as familiar with aftermarket PSU's for the 5040.

@redxps630

Yes the old power supply the 240w one works perfectly fine, the apater plugs into the 24 pin atx Mobo power I cannot upload a pic rn, at school Ugh, but I used this adapter, https://www.amazon.com/YEZriler-Adapter-Sleeved-Optiplex-Precision/dp/B0B2J1R1RK/ref=sr_1_7_sspa?crid=I7FC6T3Z5Q81&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.lyum5QPvCVC00HlO9HEJvPWXLA5nf9ajgmjWpHSpC-aK5xHqYBS58jL9eWmjNF5DyAuBsTgD-337tgZ83I5qzMGwIvcwmQDEKAjYJnK3SmfWgQUBd2zjOBTLCqYN7buMiCuJnL6RTUZRYmt4slmc_buiAubkpqsoQkflah5XLwipADxXx_QPfoNfqLi6Vw_ejYHTIi7TbrmYZ0bkAhXgtW_Ix9JIdikaQT6bZuDDHVk.B8vARAC_PstVgMPmaAv5c5czyFwvG1C0RIFz6rvl32U&dib_tag=se&keywords=dell+optiplex+24+pin+to+8+pin&qid=1713369788&sprefix=dell+optiplex+24+%2Caps%2C207&sr=8-7-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9tdGY&psc=1

And I tested it without the card and it still didn't work, the PC still shows the double amber light, with and without the GPU, as for the PSU its the 750w modular one, the only thing that I can think of is the wattage as everyone else in tutorials uses 600, or 650 watts, I am going to micro center this weekend to return the PSU and have them help me troubleshoot, I just knew U guys were experst, I will post multiple videos of the problem when I get home.

P.S here is the PSU

It might not like your new PSU.  Not all aftermarket PSU's are compatible.  May be a voltage problem, and the 5040 is playing it safe by not turning on.

@Help with optiplex Please

Thanks for the accepted solution.  To add further detail, some aftermarket PSU's under-amp the 3.3v/5v rails, which may cause no booting.  Not sure if there's too much voltage on any of the rails, it at least it didn't blow up the PC.  Compare the labels on your new and old PSU's.  That will tell you if some of the amps or voltages are off as compared to the Dell PSU, notably under-amps.

@redxps630

By any chance do you have a higher watt PSU you can suggest/recommend for the 5040 MT?
