Dell switch discard counters

Is anyone else tracking discards on the back-end switch ports?

We recently replaced our backend Infiniband switches with Dell EMC OS10 Ethernet switches (S5232F-ON)

On one of them, the ifDiscard counters are mostly at zero; on the other, they run at ~.3 -- 1.2% of the traffic (despite trivial levels of traffic)

I also notice that utilization is heavily skewed toward one switch (fortunately, the one reporting near-zero discards).

Anyone else see patterns like this?

These discards rates seem unusually high to me, compared to the other Data Center switches we manage ... even the front-end switches to this cluster report hardly any discards, despite far higher traffic levels.

@DELL-Sam L Hi Sam,

I don't know enough to understand your question ... how would I determine whether or not I have enabled any STP extensions on this switch?

I am poking through the output of 'show spanning-tree' commands ...

switch# show spanning-tree detail
Spanning tree enabled protocol rapid-pvst with force-version rstp
VLAN 4000
Root Identifier has priority 36768, Address c45a.b178.0085
Root Bridge hello time 2, max age 20, forward delay 15
Bridge Identifier has priority 36768, Address c45a.b178.0085
Configured hello time 2, max age 20, forward delay 15
We are the root of VLAN 4000

Hello protocolfan,

It would be best to open a support case so that we can look into this.
