Dell Inspirion laptops mousepad is loud and abnoxious!

You could have just configured the touch pad so that tapping anywhere on it would act as a left button click. Or, simply use an external mouse instead.

Personally, a loud click is preferred. Not only does this provide an audible confirmation that the button has been depressed, but also that the button itself is firm and of high quality, which means that it won't wear out as quick. The mouse buttons on your Lenovo will probably not last as long if they are quiet and can be easily depressed.
