Primary drive 0 not found

Hey, I have a Dell Dimensions B110 PC, and every time I boot it up it shows an error saying: "primary drive 0 not found". I am currently using a modern hard drive and a 40-pin to modern hard drive adapter for storage.

Is the drive spinning, and if it isn't, do you have a separate power line connected to the SATA drive?

That's an ancient PC, so when was last time you replaced the motherboard battery? I'd start there, if nothing else than to rule the battery out...

  1. Power off, unplug power cord from rear of PC
  2. Press/hold power button for ~15 sec
  3. Open case and remove motherboard battery (check Service Manual for details)
  4. Press/hold power button for ~30 sec
  5. Install fresh battery, probably a CR2032 3-volt coin cell battery
  6. Close up and connect mouse, monitor and keyboard
  7. Reboot
