Ideas In Action

We have quite a few updates available for ideas in action from IdeaStorm.  For our Linux fans out there, John Hull recently provided an update on Ubuntu Linux 9.04.  We have updated the following ideas based on this information.

• Dell GUI
• Provide Ubuntu on all computers and 8.04-current ubuntu releases
• Preload Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope
• Preload 8.10
• Ubuntu linux additional software options
• Linux Wireless, Video Drivers

Anyone looking for Wicked fast XPS Core i7 Laptop! can now find them on both our Studio line as well as the Alienware M15x.

We have also made a few updates to the IdeaStorm site itself based on feedback from the community.  Thank you for your help in both identifying improvements and possible bugs on the site!

• Sort comments in DESCENDING order - add NEXT/PREV page buttons
• I've detected a new bug since the maintenance update on IdeaStorm.
• Remove the Limit to the number of ideas displayed - one more area: Search Matches

We have had some great updates recently on both the Dell Mini 10 and 10v Netbooks with Ubuntu including offering 2GB of memory as well as the Moblin Remix Developer Edition.  Both of these topics have been active on IdeaStorm including these implemented ideas:

• more power to mini 10
• 2gb RAM on Mini 10
• Use Ubuntu Netbook Remix instead of the custom Dell application strip
• Offer Ubuntu Netbook Remix OS on your Ultra portables

In addition to netbooks, we have a lot of ideas for thinner and lighter full size laptops.  The new Inspiron z family is now here with both the Inspiron 14z and Inspiron 15z.  Check out these implemented ideas:

• To make good ouside shape and thin laptops
• Thinner lighter laptop
• Thinner Laptop Displays
• Dell laptop to compete w/ apple air

And lastly, the idea for 3D Desktop/VR Desktop has been implemented on the new Lynnfield Desktops - Studio 8000 and 9000.

The first thing I want to share in this update is we have some planned downtime for maintenance scheduled this weekend.  IdeaStorm will be unavailable from 9:00 pm CST Saturday, August 15th until 5:00 am CST Sunday, August 16th.  We appreciate your understanding with this and have done everything we can to reduce any inconvenience this may cause.

The other highlight to note is the recently announce partnership with Nickelodeon.  As you can see from Lionel's blog post, much of the customer feedback for these products came directly from IdeaStorm.  These ideas include:

• Make Dell Mini kid-friendly
• Kid's Notebook
• Laptop for Kids
• Low-End Laptop for Kids

Dell recently announced its FastTrack option for quick shipping to get pre-configured popular systems directly to customers as quickly as possible.  This program was generated from many ideas including:

• Offer Nextday Delivery
• Delivery Time - Please Reduce.
• Maintain a minimal stock for immediate delivery

We also continue to have dialogue around our Latitude 2100 for the education market.  In addition to the ideas below, we are currently highlighting a Lightning Rod for ideas around the Network Activity Light.  We would like to have your ideas on how that should be programmed for teachers and students - check it out on IdeaStorm.

• Do a Latitude NETBOOK preferably sub-$1000
• ubuntu on my computer: open source for education
• Sell the first anti-microbial keyboard
• laptop adaptor squid PLEASE

There is a lot of activity around our 12" laptop market as well.  The Vostro 1220 was recently announced as suggested in this idea - smaller screens more available

And other ideas that have been recently updated include:

• Please dont axes first-gen Mini 9 netbook & Mini 12 because of Microsoft
• Continue 12.1 inch notebook
• Ubuntu on 12.1 or 13.3 inch laptops
