New Vostro Laptops: A 13.3" and More

Today, we're introducing two new Vostro laptops for customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Small Business customers in North and South America will be able to order on May 1, and customers from Asia Pacific and Japan will be able to place orders on May 5. The new laptops include the 13.3" Vostro 1310, and the 15.4" Vostro 1510. The re-designed 1710 will be coming later in May... more on that when the time comes.

A common request from small business customers worldwide (like this idea from user ojisan on IdeaStorm) was for us to introduce a 13,3" Vostro notebook. The Vostro 1310 (pictured above) offers almost the same screen real estate as the larger Vostro 1400 notebook, but weighs almost 20% less. For the 1310, pricing starts at $749.

The 1510 (shown in the picture above) offers a large display in a form factor that's a bit thinner and lighter than the Vostro 1500. Like the 1310, it also features a slot-load optical drive. Pricing for it starts at $599.

Similar to the very first Vostro systems we launched in July last year, these systems do not come with trialware, they do, however, come with a 30-day return policy and can also be ordered with Dell's DataSafe online backup, the Network Assistant or our PC Tune-Up services. It's pretty clear that small business customers want notebooks with perfomance and reliability and they want this technology for an affordable price. With both of these laptops, we really aimed to balance those needs. We've also introduced more robust security features—like integrated fingerprint readers, cable locks and Trusted Platform Module 1.2 support to help prevent unauthorized network access.

David Ruth from the Vostro team covers both the 1310 and the 1510 Vostro laptops in more detail. You can also go to www.dell.com/newvostro for more information.

Maybe silly question, but what is the name of the processor that is used for the "Vostro 1510, Intel Core 2 Duo T5670"?

I guess it is Intel Core 2 Duo T5670?  If so, then i would like to see some information on that processor.  Where can i find it?  I tried intel's website, but although I can find the Core 2 Duos of course, I can't seem to find the T5670 specifically.  Is it the 'same' as another model with a similar number?

Is is possible to buy a seperate ecrryption software package for our Vostra 1510 Intel core 2 Duo T5670 to protect the data of our clients?  If so what will this cost to buy and install in Irleland

Emmanuel Huna,

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you , here is what I found out from our technicians: The TPM chip is not a field replaceable part.

The computer would have to be returned for credit and a new order placed for the model that has the chip.  I might be able to help get this process going for you if you could contact me via Private Message with your order number, customer number and a telephone number where you can be reached.  My Private Message address on the Dell Community Forum is Dell-Robert_P.  Just click on my name and select send this user a message.

Thanks,

Robert

Burt,

Looks like the one in the link above is temporarily out of stock.  Since you asked for one with a monitor connection, I found one here.

I "Googled" the Toshiba Dynadock, and it appears that it should work fine, however it does not appear that Dell sells it.

The port replicator that you list above is out of stock according to the site.  Any idea when it will be available? Does is have the ability to connect a monitor?  Will the Toshiba  Dynadock work?

@UNSRM,

Sorry, for the misinformation, but there is not a docking connector on the bottom of the Vostros.  As I described above, a port replicator would be compatible with this model.

After buying a brand new Vostro 1310 I found out the TPM chip seems not to be included.

I would like to enable BitLocker (without a USB key) - is there anyway I can add a TPM chip to my Vostro 1310 after purchase?

By the way, the support Dell has provided by email on this issue has been amazingly bad.

Hi - can you confirm that the Vostro 1310 will not have an advanced port replicator port because the dell website currently lists the new Vostros's as compatible with them.

Hi Vostro Team!

Will the Vostro laptops ever have a trackpoint pointing device in place

of/in addition to the touchpad? Otherwise, we'll have to continue buying

ThinkPads. You used to have them on some higher end Dell laptops.

I have a Vostro 1400 but I need a mouse for it.  I can not get use to the built it mouse.  Is there a mouse I can buy for it?

Norma,

There are a variety of mice that can be purchased for the Vostro 1400.  Just about any USB or Wireless mouse will work fine.

Here are some suggestions from our website

There are a ton of us waiting to hear some sort of answer or at least a "It's coming soon"

Thanks

Will Full Disk Encryption hard drives be an option on the new Vostro's?

Craig,

At this time, full disk encryption hard drives are not currently offered with Vostro notebooks, but the good news is you can use the optional TPM chip to provide file/folder encryption.

Couple of other things we’d recommend is use the fingerprint reader to limit access to the system, and TPM to limit access to your network. Individually, all of these options are great in preventing access to your data, but are really powerful when used together.

Sounds great!  Has the ability to put a vostro on a docking station been added yet?  That is a big hold back for my company.

CraigM,

Standard docking is currently not an option on Vostro notebooks, but our Latitude line has a full set of docking options. Might be worth a look at the Latitude D530 or D531 if that’s an important need for your company.   Another suggestion might be a port replicator.  Click Here
