Vista is not supporting a lot files. Dell should keep XP going.

One thing that pisses me off about this is the Vendors telling people their pc is Incompatible with XP.

This is simply not true, What is true is they are only making drivers for Vista. Why? Its failing, and users have to be forced into vista so ms doesn't look like a fool like Windows ME. Sad thing is any tech knows Vista is a piece of garbage, and any tech that disagrees either hasn't dealt with vista, doesn't know vista, or is paid to say vista is great.

btw. 2gb of ram to make vista tolerable

4gb of ram to make vista perform decently.

Seems to me that XP could get the same performance with 75% less ram.

Also Direct X 10 gamers experienced a 20-30% performance drop with the impressive Vista..

Give me a break.
Shame on you Microsoft and your DRM.

I bought my Inspiron 1501 last February just after it started shipping with Vista -- and just before the genuises at Dell decided to offer XP again as an option. I didn't know any better at the time, but Vista has been nothing for me but a huge incompatibility headache. I had to "laugh" at that Dell executive who said Dell customers wanted the latest and greatest of everything. No, Mr. Executive, most people just want a computer that just works without a lot of headaches and additional expenses. When you look at all the peripherals and software you'll need to replace (if you can!) Vista is about as bad as having a computer that's so out-of-date that hardly anybody supports it. (Oh, yeah, did I mention the brilliant ExpressCard decision?) That guy should be fired, and I'm serious about that -- I will never buy another Dell just because of my experiences with this laptop. There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in Vista that users need so badly that they should be willing to give up so much to get it, and Dell executives SHOULD have known that, if they had any common sense at all. Stop letting Bill Gates make your decisions for you!

I have had all of the problems previously noted concerning Vista on my 4 month old Inspiron 1720. I have suffered enough with incompatability problems, crashes and important business programs not funcioning correctly. I'm considering a xxxxx xxxxxx xxx xxxx. I have contacted Dell about downgrading to XP and was told to buy it myself! If I ran my business like this, I'd never get referrals. I'm supposed to get a call from an upper management person. I'll let everyone know what happens, but I'm not holding my breath.

I can't tell you how much valuable time and data I've lost trying to use this computer. This is probably my tenth Dell computer in the last ten years and the first time I've had a problem like this. Dell needs to do the right thing. Send us a replacement CD for XP Professional!

Is it possible to downgrade to XP ?

I do not want Vista on either of my two new Inspiron laptops but the sales rep could not sell me a downgraded machine.

I was told by others that Microsoft is offering users of newly purchased Vista the right to downgrade to XP. However neither Dell nor Microsoft's website are any help in this area.

Is my only option to go out to my local computer shop and buy a new copy of Windows XP ?

Can I order a copy of Windows XP for my new PC's ? I am willing to pay to avoid Vista.

New Dell Inspiron came with Vista. Nightmare!!! I'm not a geek by any stretch. Just needed a machine to store, manipulate and burn images. Dell gives me the runaround. Microsoft says talk to Dell. I just want a free downgrade to XP Pro. Help!!

Exclusive to Dell Small Business since 1994, I've purchased numerous desktops, notebooks, AIO and color laser printers. I attempted to order a Inspiron 1705 with XP in Feb 2007 and was told that XP was no longer available. Vista is not support by the insurance carriers that I work with. I purchased a similar product with XP from another company with a free update to Vista.
