2. When I'm at home I want that laptop to be able to support a 24" external monitor res. 1920x1200 native through the digital port [HDMI or display port].

Can any of the current laptops do this? Can any of the new laptops due out in June 2008 do this? It would be nice to read this kinda of information here instead of waiting for engadget to fill us in.

The most frustrating thing I have to deal with is making solutions up on the fly for my company. When I call ANY vendor for help with the solution they only focus on the products that they carry or are making the most profit on when recommending their solution(s). I understand why, but it shows me that they aren't looking out for my best interests as a customer.

What I want is to talk the designer and have them say look I know you need new switches (or other equipment), typically Cisco is the boat you want to jump in, but for your application they seem like they would be a little overkill. Try stepping back to a D-Link (or other switch) instead. That will save you $XXX and you will only be giving up XXX features. Here is a comparison of the performance you will see by going with the D-Link vs. Cisco. If you choose to go with the Cisco, we will stand by you and can offer to manage/configure it remotely for you on an as needed basis.

That scenario could go the exact opposite way too. If I was looking at the D-Link I would love for the designer to let me know if he/she knows of problems or some huge benefit (relevant benefit) Cisco would provide over D-Link.

That solution design process (ie, the designer) should be applied to all facets of IT from Mobile solutions (laptops, tablets, handhelds, VPN, security, etc) to Data center needs (cooling, racking, floor design, etc).
