In August, Nick White on the Vista blog team officially announced it's existence, and late last month, Microsoft began a private beta of it. I rarely ever quit trying when it comes to computer issues and with all my tests and Googling...I had to finally give up. One thing that did work, is a fresh Install. You've probably heard that one before. On 2 PCs, one with Ultimate and another with Home Premium, SP1 installed without a hitch.

When I was doing my tests, I literally disabled...then eventually UNINSTALLED every prgm in my PC....turn on every service and uninstalled all hotfixes....except 4 which would not leave me. I think one or all 4 of those hotfixes were responsible because on a fresh Installation, I had NOT 1 KB/hotfix update and the stand alone SP1 pkg installed perfectly! I previously had a BETA version of SP1 so that may have been and issue....or simply....SP1 likely has a glitch!

On a negative note...what's up with MS? You go through this intensely long SP1 install only to find it FAILED after it hits Stage 3 of 3 at 100%. I have heard others freak out about this and I don't blame them. Even the error code has little information as to the cause. I bit of thought in the programming dept would have gone a long way. Gee...how about....doing a system check FIRST to determine compatibility....it would of saved me MANY hours! I am not alone on this issue....am I?

re: Vista Service Pack One

Is Dell providing a CD/DVD copy of the Service pack and if so where can I get hold of it?

I have tried 9 times to download the Service Pack 1 software from windows update and it fails to install at stage 3 of 3 and showing 100% installed and then reboots and reverts back to it`s previous state. I have also tried to install the full 400mb download and that does the same.

I have noted after further research that there may be a problem with drivers that my laptop uses regarding the sigma tel audio and i`ve tried the latest drivers from dell and also uninstalling the drivers and switching the sound card off. Service pack 1 fails to install everytime and after waiting 3 hours to install and uninstall each time i try its geting very tedious.

Any 1 have any ideas at all how i can get this to work.
