the inspiron 530s (barely a year old) would it be safe to assume that if i keep the origianl backup image of vista that can be restored off the secondary partition from hitting the f8 could i wipe the C: drive and install the ubuntu image without any problems or is that me just being naieve?

It's easy to get wireless with Ubuntu(I use the latest). First you have to install “Ndiswrapper” from “Add/Remove” Applications, then go to Dell's website and download Windows drivers for your wireless card(XP version). Unzip it and look for 2 files: “bcmwl5.inf” and “bcmwl5.sys.” and put them on a memory stick. Go to “System” “Administration” “Windows wireless drivers” “Install new driver” and point it to “bcmwl5.inf” It worked flawlessly for me with the same wireless card.

This is VERY frustrating... I got Ubuntu going EXCEPT wireless. I would like a LiveCD with wireless for my 1720 w/1505 wireless. I've always hated windows and can't understand why I have to use it. I don't have to have ubuntu in particular, any distro that works is good enough. Please Dell... PLEASE help us with our laptops so we won't go with another brand!

Help please. If I buy an inspiron 1720 or 1525 with Vista but the same hardware as the Ubuntu version - i.e. Integrated Intel Graphic Media Accelerator X3100, Intel Pro Wireless 3945 802.11a/b/g Mini-Card, screen res WXGA+ (1440 x 900), (no bluetooth or other stuff) am I gonna be able to make a dual boot system using this remastered Ubuntu 7.04 or 7.10, without too much hassle? Any help appreciated.

The only thing stopping me from buying a 1720 is the Windows Vista I am forced to purchase. Make it available with Ubuntu and you got a sale ;)

I purchased a inspiron 1420 from waltmart yestarday, (t5450, geforce 8400gs, wifi, bluetooth, 2gb ram, 120gb). I installed the remastered version of ubuntu today and everything works great except bluetooth and webcam.

For newbies, the first time you boot with linux, do it in safe mode (it worked for me), and the geforce can be installed very easy with a app called "envy" (http://albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html)

Now im trying to make work the bluetooth, and the powertop app from intel (http://www.lesswatts.org/projects/powertop/). The webcam isnt a top priority for me right now, i hope this can be fix it in newer versions of ubuntu.

One thingh, since a installed ubuntu, the inspiron work more cool. I hope this affect the battery duration too, i didnt tested it very long with vista because its sucks, the first time i turned it on, the vista os used 700 mb of memory for doing absolute nothing...

What about XPS M1330, I recently buy one and I will like to install Ubuntu but I am afraid about the drivers and others components that may not work in Ubuntu..

can any body do me afavor for all the drivers for this Dell(operating system is win xpsp2) or full CD for the same drivers

It takes ages to download. (More than 24 hours to wait, and I'm using a broadband)

Is there anywhere else I can download it in a faster pace?
