All XPS 700 and 710 purchases made through June 30th, 2007 are eligible for this program.

Why the cut-off on the purchase date? I just bought a XPS 710 from the Dell Outlet in July 2007 - so now I cannot be part of the upgrade?

I just"bought" the XPS 710 and then come to read about this motherboard exchange. I call the customer service lines. Not a single person knew about this, nor could point me in the right direction to get a solid answer. I ordered the computer at the beginning of the month and it was not due to be delivered until after the 13th. Thus i thought I could get the motherboard upgrade as part of my computer if I was able to get a hold of someone who knew what they were talking about.

Secondly, and the reason I put the quotes around bought is that I ordered this computer with the understanding that I could get zero percent interest for 12 months. After all it is advertized big and bold throughout the page. I figured well I have extremely good credit, why not. Well then the mail comes and I find out I have been denied this for some high interest program. AGAIN no one in the financial group is there when I call, I am given three, vague days (business or calender, who knows!) to accept or deny the program. Here in Hawaii we are a bit behind everyone on the work day hours, plus we get the added bonus of paying extra for shipping. And now I have to pay extra interest? This is disingenuous advertizing at best.

I want to know what Dell plans to do about both the motherboard upgrade and the Preferred Account swindle they are trying to get away with. I have not even taken delivery of my XPS and I am furious with this company. An answer of any type would go a long way and may even salvage a customer.

re: How to Get Ready for the XPS 700 Exchange Program

Now that we know all there is about how to install the replacement motherboard, how to install the OS, how to watch the install video, download the owner’s manual, install drivers, install BIOS update, and make a back-up of existing data, when is it time to allow us to sign up for the replacement and get this process started?

Once it was agreed that the XPS 700 mobo was defective, Dell immediately announced that they would correct the problem with an exchange program. (This is good)

However, it took the Dell customer service folks almost a year to put the replacement package together. (This is bad and unbelievable)

Sometime during this year of indecisiveness you'd think that Dell would have had the foresight to ask us to register with them for the replacement program. Instead we are all waiting like obedient little children waiting for Dell to craft the next step of this unbelievably simple task.

How hard is this…

1. For those of us who are comfortable with changing out the motherboard ourselves. Send us the replacement package right now.

2. For those of us who are uncomfortable with changing out the motherboard ourselves, Allow us to schedule a Dell tech to come over to install it.

Folks this is not brain surgery. I will continue to use Dell (our company has purchased close to 1m in Dell products over the past years) because overall they do make a good product and provide good support. However, I question the qualifications of the Bozo in charge of this mobo replacement fiasco. What a shameful disapointment.
