From the title of this post, guess it's pretty obvious what my impression of the event was, but if I had to choose one word to describe it, that word would be phenomenal. I am glad you came, and I hope to see you there again next year. The work that you and the company you work for have done in the market place is absolutely amazing, and how quickly the Dell brand is changing in the consumer mind, also blows me away.

You are all to be commended for the work that you have done, and my only criticism is that next time, make sure you can stay longer. :)

Thanks again,

Deans

Lionel,

I'm curious, did you hear about any meaningful examples of where companies are truly collaborating with their customers? The term collaboration is used at lot, but it rarely has any substantive meaning -- I see this as the three phases of market development, as follows:

First phase -- company Marcom pushes messages to the marketplace, and doesn't anticipate or want a response from customers (the monologue phase).

Second phase -- an enlightened Marcom team opens the two-way channel and encourages a dialogue (the engagement phase). However, all decisions about are still made in isolation, and the customer is merely told the outcome.

Third phase -- the transition has organizational implications -- the whole marketing department is now exposed to first-hand customer insights, and collaborates with customers to create a value-added product or service (the co-creator phase). Customer's are active participants, not just spectators that "comment."

re: Why mesh 2007 Rocked

Lionel, It was great to meet you at Mesh and Third Tuesday. You're doing very interesting work, and I think we all have a lot to learn from yours and Dell's experiences.

Too bad we couldn't get you to Ottawa this time. Hopefully we can make it happen another time in the near future.

To me, you were one of the "gems" of mesh07 and I am simply tickled to (a) have met you and (b) to have had you at the event.
