Have you read about the soon coming netbook from Dell? As rumord on www.dell-mini.com it will be on sale with Ubuntu Linux.. 8.9", Intel Atom and Ubuntu = nice!

Hi All,

if any one is reading this blog before you make your order, please do not make your order. i had ordered and made the payment for my studio 15 laptop on July 30th am yet to receive it, the sales guys who took the order promised the laptop would be delivered to me within 7-10 days, i have not received the laptop. when i try to call them they hang up the call saying we will get back, thay never get back, after that when i tried calling them they dont even answer the call. Had already posted a blog on this, no proper replies from anyone. so please dont get into this kind of problem by ordering a laptop. no replies for all the mails i have sent the sales people. never knew Dell would treat customers like this. Dont even have a proper place to complain.

Just received my Dell Inspiron 530N with Ubuntu 7.04. Yes, GG (7.10) is available but it still shipped with 7.04. As a long-time redhat/fedora user, I must say that Ubuntu is very impressive. I've installed a couple dozen packages that didn't come pre-installed and apt-get / synaptic makes that delightful. YUM/YUMEX are poor substitutes. Very nice machine - quiet, good-looking and blows the doors off my 5-year-old Dimension 4400 which is running FC6.

Nice job, Dell !!!

I've just got my Inspiron, it's a 1520 pre loaded with Vista. Vista stayed just as long as it tool for me to burn and install Ubuntu Gutsy. I hated Vista within the twenty minutes it took to burn the live cd. I have no compiz (but in all honesty I don't care!) and if I shut the lid wifi doesn't work when I reopen it (cured by a reboot) but neither of these things irritate me anywhere near as much as the constant nagging of Vista. Well done Dell for having the courage to take Linux on board, I hope this is the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship.

Ubuntu can be installed on a Canadian Dell 1501.

I have followed the instructions on this website to get Ubuntu installed. Wi-fi has to be configured manually and this website shows how. I have a fully functional Dell 1501 with Ubuntu setup with some of my own customizations. Anyone who needs a hand can leave a message here.

Some problems currently noted.

Hibernate and sleep do not work.

Cannot get Compiz to work properly. Many users have gotten it to work and many others have not.
