The Latitude E4200 fits in an envelope too... with room to spare

I thought we should add a little something to the chatter about Apple today. Take a look at this to see how the Latitude E4200 compares to the MacBook Air.

Heard about new mystery Dell 12" Atom based unit. This should be comparable product.

Jaak Dell sülearvuti

Still, Mini 9 is 9", Air is 12". I think You should compare it with 12" upcoming Atom-based mystery-Dell

Jaak, http://shop.it.ee/

More Dell vapor-ware with the Unobtanium 2 CPU.

How many sales have they lost to Apple, Lenovo, HP, etc. because they haven't released the E4200/E4300 yet?

@Joe: ROFL!

"Just like every dell product when compared to MAC..." (emphasis mine). Are you on drugs?!? How dare you compare that overpriced piece of junk to Dell? Troll elsewhere, mac fanboy.

Lame. Derivative. And totally misses the point. Just like every dell product when compared to mac...

Gotta love the Mac fanboys bombarding the Dell blog.  I thought the ad was pretty clever, can't wait to get my hands n an E4200, we have a D420 here and the size to performance is fantastic, can't wait to see an E4200 in person, keep up with all these new product anouncements Dell!

How about instead of a horrible ad, you actually release it and not make us not want it anymore

Wow, Such Mac Fanboi's posting.  Really does 4 MM really make it that much thicker?

So Mac just used a larger envelope.....

People who post comments should do a little research first!

Wow..that was so lame.

I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?

Why Latitude family is not available with Linux? :/

my corporation firewall blocks youtube videos, so your product is invisible to me.  that's thin.

Please more infos about price and availability. Thanks

tashmooclam

One of them is aluminum, thinner, runs a superior Unix-based operating system, has many useful applications included, is more stylish, doesn't require Windows, and is all around a better product. Which is it?

It's not the thickness that matters but weight and features that come in that computer. So far, MBA is an utter piece of junk... This is almost as bad as TV manufacturers making slimmer and slimmer sets but they're way out of most peoples buying margin. Who cares if your set is one inch thinner, afterall you should be watching what's on it and not the thing itself. This is kind of similar here and despite the fact that I dislike Dell, this laptop is a better investment than MBA. This Dell is much lighter than MBA, has all the ports a computer should have, all specs with exception of the processor are much better and it has a removable battery. It also does come with a dvd-rw drive and even has an eSATA port. You have to be an Apple fanboy or a fool to get MBA over this.

chadley_chad

Yeah ... but it doesn't focus on how thick the thing is - or its usability to the Apple. I dont know, when will manufacturers stop trying to fool people into thinking their products are better when they arent. They should take the time to actually create something that is, not on marketing that anyone who knows anything about PC's will scoff at in 1 second!

Macbook Air is way thinner. And of course it has a much better design and OS. That was just silly.

yannic Huneau

10 times bigger ! No chance to throw it in a garbage !

hahaha.... LOL... I love the "most substance, less air" part... lol.... nice comparison!!! Dell FTW!!!!

There are two issues in this ad. Yed, E4200 is an excellent new product (never touched yet), still its less powerful CPU-wise and smaller LCD (Dell 12", Apple 13")

We would rather compare Air to E4300

True, E3200 whole 0,4 Kg lighter than Air.

Jaak http://shop.it.ee/

Why on earth would you want to show a smaller screen size than a competitor? dumb dumb dumb. I hope they bag this ad

Wow ! What a fantastic NEW idea for a commercial from Dell...*irony*

Blueprint-1

Wow...not impressive at all.

Bad footage, poor ad focus, negativity driven and based on a competitor's previous idea. Let's just give this one a fail and call it a day.

If you want to see a good ad, check out HP's offerings, they kick the Apple ones right out the door!

How's this got room to spare? Its obvious that the envelope looks bulky compared to the original Apple commercial.

Ahhh... but the DELL has a more cramped and unusable keyboard! I see the difference now!

However, I do like DELL products so I'll give points for originality... this commercial gets negative 100. Its already been done.

Brad Wilson

Umm, did you notice that your envelope was fat and bulging?

Lots of computers will fit into a manila envelope, I think you missed the point of Apple's envelope ad.

Very well done! Go Dell lol :)

wow, thats not interesting.

That's what I call a fat envelope, Latitude doesn't look sleek at all!

Lenovo did a better job with this.

well, may be smaller in length and width, but by the looks of that envelope, it seems much bulkier.  plus at the end of the day, it runs Windows, so regardless of how small it is, if you can't rely on the software it pointless.

nice try but the MacBook Air's claim to fame is its thinness and the fact that it runs Mac OS X.

Smo Huffmister

I don't know... seems to me like a desperate move.

yet it still looks chunky...go figure

I see you didn't do a side on comparison,

No real problem, you can see the envelope bulging with the fat notebook inside

I love it. I would love to get my hands on one of these for a traveling laptop.

What is so cute about it? It's bulky and ugly. :D

Nice jibe at the end :)

Then release it already.  Geesh.

Lol- this is just making them look worse. I prefer a laptop with a larger screen, not a bulkier case. Compare the thickness of the envelope in that video to http://www.apple.com/macbookair/#ad

When are you guys actually going to release the darn thing?

Not well executed.  It's about the perceived thickness - which was obviously avoided in every shot.  They should have just removed any sort of side profile image, since Apple has done a nice job tapering the MacBook to diminish the sense of the actual size.  It comes off brick-like and large by comparison.  The envelope was even bulging.  With the way the product is presented in this ad, you wind up a sense that Dell's laptop is thicker and has a smaller screen.  Not good, especially since both products are apparently almost the same height/thickness at their center (0.76 in vs 0.79 in).

Why not just hit Apple where it hurts and talk about price?

Alessandro Cortini

A lame and un-original way to show Dell's inability to innovate.

Try showing the sidewise comparison ;)

I dunno, I hope nobody was paid to come up with this thirdhand (Apple, then Lenovo) "idea".  It's a neat illustration of how unimaginative Dell has become.

plasticphyte

Smells of a 'Me too' campaign, not a 'we do it better'.

Anxiously Waiting

Great, now when can we order one?

ok great. so when can i buy this? im about to buy a lenovo cause you're products are all taking too long for production (u guys already lost me on the mini cause u released it so late)... need this for college.

wow... that was terrible.  I am no Mac lover but this video made your product look old and ugly.  I mean even the envelope was abused and 'used'.  Placing your laptop on top of the Air gave it a cool silver outline. This video is much like the new Microsoft ad campaign, un-original and old. Dell, you use to be my top brand for linux laptops. I have been forced to use HP, I mean HP for heaven's sake! What happen? Dude! Help out this Austinite!

It's funny, you show that it fits on top of the air and saves space in width , but you don't show a profile of the thickness.. It would be more air at that point less dell..

Bad form to try to compare. let others compare.  be the better man(company) and just stand behind the product.

Come on dell.

The worst attempt of mocking apple..

Although it does fit in the envelope, the envelope appears to be almost bursting at the seams, whereas the Apple version is more streamlined and it is hard to tell that there's something inside the envelope.

but being able to buy "accidental damage" warranty coverage is a huge plus that i wish apple would offer.

horribly shot,

unimaginative,

misses the point,

clunky product,

thanks for showing how ugly the lattitude is compared to the MBA

I don't like the music and it only shows that the 4200 is not as wide as the air.  I thought it would be a little more hip that that and maybe show some features not available from Apple.

Naked Bunny with a Whip
Looking good. Get a proper OS on that thing and we'll talk.

GoodThings2Life

That's awesome.

A cute way to show the size comparison.
