Dell at LinuxWorld this Week

As many of you know, the 2008 LinuxWorld Conference and Expo is taking place this week in San Franciscso. Several of us at Dell will be attending to take part in the "Desktop Linux" track. I'll be part of a panel discussion titled "OEM Desktop Panel Discussion - We’re shipping Linux on PCs: Now What?" on Wednesday morning at 11:30, while Daniel Judd and Cole Crawford are hosting a session titled "The Client Linux Desktop: A Dell Case Study", on Thursday morning at 10:15. Why is it still not possible to buy a Dell laptop (Linux preloaded) in the Netherlands?

Jim, use the Service tag at support.dell.com to look up warranty information, which will tell you when it originally shipped.

Woohoo! I anxiously await the advent of the next several ubuntu models :)  I may want to get the ubuntu netbook for my mom if the price is right..  Got an all-in-one for my grandparents, perhaps?

I guess I'll just have to wait and see...

Jim: Just send me an e-mail (lionel_menchaca@dell.com) with your service tag (it's a black and white barcode sticker with numbers and letters).

Once I have that, I can look up your system and let you know some details.

I'd really like to read a summary of your panel discussion, since I can't attend (it's a long drive from Sweden). And a summary of mr Judd's and Crawford's session as well. :)

Every now and then I get into diskussions related to this, since I bought a XPS M1330 (no 'n') and installed Ubuntu on it. Partly because I want to support a company that I think is going in the right direction. The objection tends to be along the lines that Dell hasn't done their part, that it's not good enough and that I shouldn't support something that's not perfect.

What I understand is that maybe Dell doesn't get much profit from their Linux endevours on the desktop, but you must get a lot of valuable insight. Sooner or later this knowledge will benefit you, because desktop Linux isn't getting smaller. So I'm looking for some arguments coming directly from the source! :D
