Have a Question? Our Community May Have an Answer!

button-solution-solved

Next time you are over at the Dell Forums searching for answers, look for the image like the check mark on the left. It's telling you that there is an solution for that issue. It's part of something we launched in February called Accepted Solution.

The concept is based on a simple premise... that customers who create a forum thread about a specific issue are the best ones to tell the community which post fixed their problem. Said another way, an original poster of a thread can now select the specific post within their thread that answered their question.

Here's how it works:

  • Login to the Dell Forum (if you don't register, you can still browse)
  • Click on a thread that contains the kinds of details you're looking for (like Desktops and General Hardware)
  • Look for the threads with a green check mark labeled Solved!

Overall thread view

Note: Clicking on the picture above will take you to a larger version of it.

If you click on one of those threads, you will see the comment that started the thread.  When a customer identifies a post as a solution, the thread gets a special logo in the top right corner that looks like the logo below. Clicking on it will take you right to the solution post.

Solution Logo

It also marks the specific comment that fixes the issue with an Accepted Solution icon and turns that comment green like this one below:

Accepted Solution

This provides a visual way to search through the millions of threads on our forums for an answer to a question, by allowing users with the same question to quickly identify answers already provided by other users. If you spend time on forums like we do, you know that threads can get quite long and quickly! From the usual conversation back and forth to the many steps it often takes to arrive at a good solution, this feature helps users help each other ‘cut to the chase’!

It's taken off faster than we expected: we recently reached over 5,000 accepted solutions, and are averaging about 60 new accepted solutions added each day. Over half a million views of accepted solutions, our database of questions and answers is growing! We are excited and pleased to see so many members of our community using this feature and helping not just the first user with the question they have, but potentially millions of other users who have the same question in the future.

So next time you have a question, whether it’s technical or you’re not sure what to buy, check out the forum. There may already be an accepted solution waiting for you. Starting there will probably save you some time and effort.

For more details on how the Accepted Solution functionality works, take a look at the FAQ.

Great invite...hope I receive a hint, if not an answer... Dell announced that their "next generation" of laptops would feature GOBI chipsets built-in ... in April 2008. My old Dell laptop, wonderful as it has been, is on it's last legs, and I just ordered another Dell laptop...NOT with the much desired GOBI chipset (plain vanilla Verizon MoBro). So where are these laptops? Folks, HP is blowing you out..Lenovo is on track...when are the GOBI's coming? And if fairly soon, can I upgrade my just purchased laptop! PS...you need to make sure your sales folks actually know about current and or promised technologies...getting verbal "blank stares" when I ask about GOBI... Looking forward to a quick answer??!!

Is this still true? I USED to use the forums for answers but find that they are next to impossible to use. I'm crossing my fingers that I won't have to use them again---much too difficult. Just look at the poll results with the softball answers! DC

e an inspiron e1505 and my hard drive just crashed so i lost everything. so now with my new hard drive i have no sound.i have my computer is telling me i have no audio device but i dont know how to install one.

Hi Ashley,

It sounds like you just need to install the correct driver for your audio card. (I'm assuming you checked to make sure the sound isn't muted?)

You can find drivers on our support site, http://support.Dell.com.   When you pull up that page click on the link for downloading drivers and type in your service tag.  It will take you a list of drivers for your model and if you look under the Audio (or sound) section it will have links where you can download and install the drivers to get your sound working again.  The drivers normally auto run and install themselves so just follow the onscreen instructions.

If you want more help you can also post your questions to the Dell Community Forums.  The members there are very helpful and I'm sure they'll be able to tell you how to get your sound working again.

I have a Latitude D820 and have had it since Oct 0f 2006 and my 9 cell battery died about 8 months ago, I have a docking station and rarely ever use the battery any tips?

Hi Dave,

You may want to repost your question to our Dell Community Forums.  There are a lot of experienced members of the forums that can probably supply you with some suggestions on how to improve battery life.

You can access the forums at: http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/

Hope this helps.

Chuck,

You can most likely find the answer to your question on the Dell Community Forum. I have the link to the printer board below.

Hi Jackie and Sandra!

Sorry to hear you are having some issues with your Dell systems. Here's what I recommend you try:  Go to the dell forum (www.dellcommunity.com) and enter words that describe the problems you are having in the search box. Threads that have accepted solutions will be shown first in the search results. If you do not see a thread that is addressing the same issue you are experiencing, feel free to submit a new thread, so other users can help you resolve your issue.

hi,

I have 9300 inspiron laptap - purchased late 2005.  it is on its second power supply.  this morning it is dead.  the power supply has an active light when it is not plugged into back of the laptop.  Plug the supply into the laptop the active light dies.  Where do you start to find the problem - Power supply,  laptop battery, or power port on the laptop.

thanks,
