Small Business Excellence Award US Call for Entries, Global Expansion Coming Soon

Dell is partnering with the International Council for Small Business and Endeavor to expand the Small Business Excellence Award internationally, giving small businesses that demonstrate technology innovation to benefit customers a chance to win time with Michael Dell, up to $50,000 in Dell products and services and be honored by Dell and its world-class partners.

Dell and the National Federation of Independent Business, the small-business advocacy association that founded the program in 2004, continue to recognize leading U.S. small businesses for using technology to better serve customers.

Today, we're starting the call for entries in the United States for the fifth annual Dell/NFIB Small Business Excellence Award and will accept applications through Feb. 29, 2008. Additional countries participating in the program will be announced over the coming weeks. For a description of the criteria, rules and regulations, award levels, partners and judges and to complete an application, visit www.dell.com/ceaward.

Each year, the award winners meet with Michael Dell and other Dell experts to share best practices and discuss technology trends that impact small businesses. Hearing from past winners is one of the best ways to fully appreciate the opportunity the Small Business Excellence Award creates for entrepreneurs, and we hope their stories will encourage you or entrepreneurs you know to apply for the first-ever global award.

Jim Cox, 2007 U.S. award winner and president of Medkinetics, recently spent a day at Dell. He sat down to talk to us just after his time with Michael.

You can also see the 2006 winner and President of SewWhat? Inc. Megan Duckett's forum post sent at the end of her award year and her vlog from her day at Dell in fall 2006.

I am excited for all the small businesses who have gone through the process of completing the application. The seemilngly small action may well reap big results! -

Taking the time to look at our small business - both what we did well and that which we needed to do better - was a very rewarding process for us at Sew What? Inc. when we applied in 2006.

2 years since receiving this presitgious award we are still enjoying the benefits of the award itself - but more than that, the continued relationships we have built with the Dell team. From a technology standpoint we are now positioned nearer our large competitors, despite our small size. And we are braver and more creative than ever.

Thanks Dell for your commitment to small business.

Sincerely,
Megan Duckett

Thanks for the update Lionel!

My company submitted an entry for this award last year and didn't hear anything.  We don't know if Dell even received our entry.  I realize that Dell more than likely recieves a lot of entries for this award, but a note or email back saying it has been recieved would be nice.  That way people don't think their entry was lost in the mail, or thrown out without it being looked at.

Craig: Sorry that happened to you last year. Have asked some of our folks on the Small Business team to explain how the process should work.

Update: Already got a response from the team.

Craig, thanks for the feedback, and we have addressed your concern. We improved the process this year so you will receive a confirmation message that your application was received successfully. While we cannot contact each entrant individually, we will be announcing the finalists in the May timeframe.

Please check www.dell.com/ceaward for updates in early May. I hope you will apply again this year. Good luck.

To be honest, Dell can't even release proper drivers for Microsofts Latest OS, (Vista sigmatel stereomix ;) ) so why a small business would want to take tips off them, beats me.

Heres a new best practice for dell, make sure you have the appropriate drivers :) (its for the best, helps computers run better)

Still maybe whoever gets to talk to M.Dell will be able to pursaude him that he needs to get some areas of his company into shape, infact maybe thats not a bad idea for applying myself ,

Yours most annoyed,

JH
