15.4 size XPS system

Dell today announced the XPS 1530, a 15.4-inch notebook featuring the same award-winning design and features introduced by the XPS M1330 earlier this year. Customers have asked Dell to broaden the XPS product line to include a 15" notebook, and IdeaStorm community member lilredfoxie submitted the idea back in February, shortly after IdeaStorm launched.  Check out Lionel’s blog post today for more details on the new notebook's features, including built-in webcam and fingerprint reader, which have been popular suggestions on IdeaStorm.

Great Job. Even better specs than the M1330. Now, how about that 17 inch?

Is there going to be a Windows XP option?

Great, but please upgrade the screen resolution. Its a high profile notebook with a low profile resolution... it shouldnt be that way.
Give at least the option for 1440x900 and even one on the 1600 range should be possible.

Hi,
Just a note on this topic - I have been following this computer avidly since well before its release, and am eager to buy one. Like many before me though, I was thrown off by the screen resolution, that has to be the lowest on the market for that screen size and graphics card. Now I have spoken to Dell umpteen times in the last month or so, and have never been given any understanding on when Dell is planning to upgrade their screen options (I do know this is happening, just not when). Given the February fiscal year close, I can understand how Dell would like to pick up a little extra revenue for the books during the christmas season, which will happen given all the price not performance focused customers out there - who will see the Dell as a nice middle ground alternative to higher priced Sony's and slightly cheaper HP's.
My question is this - you have come out with a winning product, then broken its legs and sent it hobbling into the world. For those of us who really do care about our tech, could you be the responsible company we expect you to be and at least give your customer support people some information on when these upgrades are intended ? Again, i know laptop lcd panel supply is cr*ppy, but still - at least confirm that you will do it at "some point" .. I'd be happy with that, just dont leave us hanging for the higher res.

Please update the resolution quickly. I'd like to buy one before the holidays! Where's the PM when you need him!...come on Mike...you can do it...for god's sake, just slap on the same screen that available on the 1520.

Agreed. A WUXGA or a WSXGA 15.4" screeen would be a welcome option.
That's a beautiful notebook. The bundled accessories are a sweet idea. I almost checked out with one, except for the limited screen resolution option--the same reason I wouldn't buy a Mac 15.4"
An option of an Nvidia 8700m or 8800m would also be nice, if at all technically possible, but it's hardly a deal-killer on a 15.4" portable.

Agree. The resolution is horrible. I don't see why someone would purchase this laptop with such a low resolution.

This notebook is exactly what I’m looking for. I’m currently holding back as would definitely want a higher resolution screen; currently its disappointing low. If Dell are reading this please, please ensure it’s 300 nits AND can still support a 2MP+ camera.
I bought two XPS M1330 a couple of months ago with and 300 nits option and these only have 0.3MP option – the quality on these are extremely poor.

The screen resolution should be at least 1680x1050.

Why, oh why has Dell dropped the lovely high resolution screens that used to be offered. Everything else looks on the XPS1530 looks perfect! I would have bought this machine without hesitation if it was offered with a WSXGA+ screen.
Any ideas if this will ever be offered?

What we REALLY need is a consolidated method to roll back XPS models from Vista to XP. Can you make this happen? There's no consolidated instructions or methods to do this. And Dell Support's answer is "not supported" Business users are really blocked from these machines or spend hours hunting down drivers from other Dell products and hope they work! Like audio drivers for example.
