New Conexant hsf and dcg modem drivers Available for Download

Linux device drivers for Conexant hsf soft modems and dcg USB modems are now available for download here. Note that we are making 32-bit and 64-bit debs, 32-bit and 64-bit RPMs, and a tarball available for Dell customers to download and use. The 32-bit deb package has been fully tested on Ubuntu 7.10 for the Inspiron 6400n, E1505n, and 1420, and is the only package officially supported by Dell; the others come with no support and there is no guarantee that they will work. For any issues, please send an email to the Linux Desktops mailing list.

hey guy can you help me im having trouble with may pci driver i cant seem to feed the driver for modem device high definition audio bus

pls pls help me thank you very much

linux-backports-modules is not needed when you install the driver.

I have a D630 too. I just first removed linux-backports-modules and then installed the modem driver. Now, I have both sound and modem working.

Installed on a Latitude D630... Sound is now dead. Somehow this driver conficts with linux-backports-modules, that are needed for this hardware

Thanks John,

I downloaded the tarball and did a make install then ran /usr/sbin/hcfconfig and set my region to be UK, and after a logout/login to correct the soundcard issue, all seems well (I haven't connected to a phone line but the modem does dial out on its own ok).

There may be users out there who aren't technically minded enough to do the whole manual install thing though, so wouldn't introducing a 64 bit .deb be a good idea, or are there problems associated with making one that I'm not aware of? Alternatively providing step by step instructions in the wiki on extracting the tarball and running through the command line stuff to get it installed? Just a suggestion... Thanks for providing the driver, I can now honestly say that EVERYTHING hardware wise works in 64 bit Ubuntu with the Inspiron 1505n/6400! It's just a shame that Flash and Java don't have native 64 bit versions, although that will change soon with Java (since version 7 became GPL, and the IcedTea stack is under development) and Flash can run inside a 'wrapper' so it does work, but not ideally... It's still fantastic though...

Rgds,

Neil.

@Neil: I corrected the blog post above: we're not actually releasing a 64-bit deb. However, the tarball file should provide everything you need.

@dane: We haven't tested on the 1520, but we would expect the driver to work

Hi,

Many thanks for this, although I couldn't see a 64 bit deb package for the HSF driver, are you planning to release one?

Rgds,

Neil.

By the way, I suppose if it's available for the 1420, it should also work on the 1520? The hardware is essentially the same, I assume?

Thanks for releasing, by the way!

Thanks, glad to see you've provided the 64 bit.  I'm now using it successfully on gutsy on an E1505.  It works great so far.
