Blog Action Day

Today is Blog Action Day. The idea behind it is to get bloggers talking about a single important topic: the environment. So far almost 16,000 bloggers have weighed in on the environment.  For a bit more context about the purpose, here's a promotional YouTube video and here's the FAQ. You can take a look at this link to track activity in the blogosphere. As I post this, Blog Action Day is the #1 search request on Technorati

Anyone that reads Direct2Dell from time to time knows that we have an environmental category where we try to keep folks updated on what we're doing. You can also check out the latest info on Dell.com at www.dell.com/environment, and we're always interested in your green ideas on this section of IdeaStorm. We also recently launched a conversation page focused on the environment that aggregates environmentally-focused content within Dell and beyond.

But in my mind, the real value of the blogosphere is about sharing information, and Blog Action Day has been a real success on that front.

For it's part, Dosh Dosh posted a list of top environmental blogs. Lifehacker engaged the community to come up with a list of things you can do. DailyBlogTips also provides a list of 5 simple things to affect change. Rohit Bhargava shares 7 tips for eating differently to have a postive impact on the environment, and Andy Beale suggests saving trees by stopping junk mail, and provides two options for people looking to do so. I agree, would like to add Catalog Choice to the list of options.

If the environment is something you're passionate about, take some time today to blog about it... and then take some time to read the content that results.

just want to say how disappointed I am in how DELL treats our US soldiers.  Before my son left for his tour in Iraq he bought a DELL laptop so he could stay in contact with family.  It was an interest free purchase, or so we thought.  Turns out he paid interest on it the whole time. It was set up as an automatic payment from his account.  As it turns out he paid twice as much for the computer than it was worth and DELL would not talk to him at all about.  Every time he called when he got home and discovered he was still paying for the laptop at $100 a month for 15 months or more, he was put on hold and never helped, when someone would get on they would just brush him off and offer no answers or help.  My company uses DELL and I was so disappointed.  I thought they were a great company to use until now.  If this is how they treat our soldiers I don’t think I want any part of them.  I plan on getting ride of all my DELL products which I have a lot of at home and and work, and passing on to all my friends and family whom I have talked into buying DELL to do the same.  I also plan of talking to my company.  I know they feel strongly about supporting our troops.

My blog action is a tribute to the environment...with Leonardo DiCaprio, animated short films, and newsbites from leading conservationalists around the Globe.

Check it out!

Hi Lionel;

Everyone on DCF participating in Stanfod U's Folding@Home Project is wondering when you are planning to post a blog here about it?

 This is for a great cause to help find cures for diseases like Alzheimer's, Huntington's, Lou Gehrig's, amongst a huge list ... It has the endorsement of Dell and Google among many othe great companies.

Please do a plug-in for us ASAP.

 With God's help, we could put a huge dent in this project.

Team XPS was established in July and in less than 3 months we are Ranking in the 400s amongst over 80,000 teams.

Here's our thread:

More than a Million people around the world are participating.

Team XPS needs all the help we could gather.

Here's where one could download the software and utilize their CPUs' power & idle times for this cause to help humanity:
